Hey guys,

Got some time off work over Christmas and despite being a fair noob mechanically, I'm hoping to install a meek cooler kit into my GSR (4g93t, stock td04), among other things. There's obviously a bit more involved than just pulling the stock one out and bunging the new one on, I've done a bit of searching and this is what I think needs to be done:

Replace throttle body elbow with a straight 2.5" one
Make up some mounts for the cooler
File the hole the piping runs through a bit larger

Anyone got any tips or done it themselves and know better? Please no "take it to a shop" type comments...

Cheers

I'm guessing its their new complete kit, and not the piping kit made by plazmaman? If so, just exactly what you said except i dont think you need to enlarge the gap next to the radiator for the hot side pipe as i think its only 2" still. You may need a TD05 turbo outlet/j pipe.

The old piping kit needed the cooler tanks enlarged and a custom elbow to the throttle body aswell as the radiator support cut to fit the 2.5" piping.

Yep the whole kit including cooler from meek. I think I have a J-pipe from another cooler kit that will fit so I'm not too worried about that, and looking at the pipe it seems to be 2.5" so I might dummy it up before I enlarge the hole.

Any tips on making the mounts?

Thanks for the input Paul!

its pretty much straight forward just keep all the hose clamps loose once all piping is fitted, then massage all pipes to a position they miss and clear most parts of the body then tighten up all the hose clamps checking that the pipes dont move to far when tightening up.

The Meek IC Pping set is 63mm o/d all round which is alot larger than the oem pipes, I got my oem ic end tank pipes cut out and fab'd in 63mm o/d to match the piping kits i/d

should be very straight forward to fit Ive fitted over 6 sets on gsr's and never had a fitting issue.

GL with it

OK, finally got round to dummying this up on the weekend (cars been in storage) and it's a bit more difficult than I thought.

1. A fair bit needs to come off the radiator support for the hot side pipe to fit through.
2. The spare j-pipe I have doesn't look like it'll fit
3. The lower tabs on the cooler don't line up with the bolt holes in the rad support.

Has anyone (Liberoz) come across these and got any easy workarounds/suggestions? Again, I know I'm a bit of a spud with this stuff so maybe there's something obvious I'm overlooking - just want to make sure I'm on the right track.

Actually, do evos have a hole in the rad support for the hot side pipe, or does it not cover that section? We've taken off a fair bit around the hole and even though the pipe fits it just doesn't seem right.

What 'cooler are you running? If you're using an EVO1-3 'cooler, the radiator support should have a blind hole on the driver side somewhere that you can use to line it up and drill a second lower mounting hole. Then insert a couple of riv-nuts into these holes and you've got a real neat and tidy mounting strategy for the lower tabs. The top mount can be done with a strap off the centre reinforcement of the radiator support.

With a GSR you may have to file open the hole on the radiator support for the piping to fit through, just work it and you'll see what needs to be done. I would recommend getting some rubber edging from Clarke Rubber or something to fit over the edge of the hole so that you create a nice edge for the piping to sit against - looks neater and prevents metal/aluminium contact.

Where the cold side of the piping runs under the RHS chassis rail, you may also need to remove a bit of metal from this area too. Again - roughly install the piping and you'll see what you need to do to make it fit.

Yeah that's exactly what I was after, thanks mate!

I filed off enough for the pipe to pass through but it's still a pretty tight fit so I might take some more off.

The only other thing is connecting up the jpipe off the turbo - I just seem to be missing a bend or something to get them to connect, the flex pipe doesn't fit.

You need the matching MEEK outlet pipe, it's different to the stock ones and matches to the hotside pipe with a straight piece of silicone.
