Hey I'm going to attempt to change my window reg this weekend, can anyone who has done it themselves give me a few quick instructions? Is it something an amateur can do or should I just take it to the mechanics?

Mate it piss easy to do. Remove the door trim and you will find some gold bolts that hold the window reg in position. Before doing so, probably lower the window about 3/4 height so you can gain access to the 2 x screws that hold the glass in place on the bottom rail. Undo the 2 x screws and carefully remove the glass from the top and place aside. The regulator is then a simple case of removing the 4 x bolts that hold the vertical bracket, one bolt on the side of the door when it locks there somewhere, and then the 3 bolts that hold the regulator motor in place. You will need to rotate it sideways etc to remove it and that it is unplugged. Reinstalling is just the opposite of how you removed it. Its very easy to do. Oh, also ensure that when you reinstall it the wires and plugs are out of the way of the moving window. Best to test it before you put the door trim back on.

just make sure you only have the ignition on when you need to move the reg as my mechanic mate chopped the tips of his fingers off when the reg moved with his hands in it.

You shouldn't need power applied at all to do this. I've done it a few times, including once in the rain :(
It is an easy job and you should have no dramas mate.

hey mate, did this last night... too about 30 minutes.... seriously only 7 bolts that need removing from the door (not including the little screws to un do the trim, handle etc), and 2 screws to undo the glass from the Reg. then simply re install in reverse order!

Cheers
