I'm not getting anything out of this - just a heads up, maybe it'll help you guys out.

I've had a heap of problems getting acceptable insurance for the lancer. I'm 25 now, so this shit is supposed to be easy, but when the market value of your car is something ridiculous like $6k and you've spent four million dollars on it ( ), it's hard to get something you're happy with.

Anyway, I just changed my insurance over to LSV (Lumley Special Vehicles), cause they managed to meet all my criteria above, as well as a heap of other good shit.

They've given me:

- A very reasonable premium (half what Shannon's wanted for comparison)
- An excellent agreed value that I'm very happy with
- NCB protection
- 10% discount for car club members (I used ANDRA)
- $500 excess regardless (GIO Custom car wanted $2500 if it was crashed, $2800 if stolen) - no stupid excess for modified car etc.
- All mods covered provided they're legal - they didn't even want a list of them.
- Their agreed value isn't just some arbitary number - you agree on a value that covers everything - cost of the car and all mods and accessories. You can change this at anytime by giving them a call and telling 'em you just did something stupid like dropping $10k on a new turbo setup
- All the usual stuff like windscreen replacement, hire cover in the event of theft.
- They also give trailer cover, which most places don't seem to do.

Their website is www.lsvinsurance.com.au .. the guy I dealt with there was Joseph, top bloke - happy to chat about cars/bikes/track work/whatever.

If it's anything like Vigil was (LSV incorporate Vigil and a few others), then it's easy as hell in my experience.

Sounds great, as long as you thoroughly scoped out what the policy entails beforehand and understand it of course. If its written in black and white they have to fulfil their obligations under the agreement.

Yeah, their PDS is actually easy to read - not full of the usual small print and complicated clauses.

do they definate legal modifications as things that RTA would not consider a defect i assume?

id get the car engineered to be safe so you have something to fall back on in the event they turn on you

because do you have external gate, pod coming off the turbo, loud exhaust etc etc. - these are things they might try and fk you over with?

just gotta be careful thats all. ive been paranoid with things like that. running stock airbox with k&n, plumbback bov, internal wastegate turbo - all looks from factory under the hood

All my policies have said modifications have to be 'legal' before, and I've never been pulled up on it. Of course, I'm sure they could try and screw you out of a claim by using it as an excuse, but I also know of two cases where it didn't wash as the so-called 'illegal' modifications had nothing to do with the accident.

Robert, I assume they will, 'cause they're Melbourne based :)
