Is it possible to run a worked head (porting, 1mm oversided valves, 272 or higher) on my vr4 with no aftermarket ecu.

Only using fuel/air computer like a safc etc and a chipped ecu?

Any sugestions welcome :)

Cheers

The standard ECU will run your engine with your modded cylinder head.
It will also run better than before, just not the best you can get out off.

This is because the standard ECU is tune to the characteristics of the standard engine.

I figured as much, but using a chip with better maps in conjunction with a safc for air/fuel it shouldn't be too bad?

I'm thinking of this as I will be using a standard head free chip and safc's are around $200..

Then at least I can run a modded head when I do build one and buy a ecu later.

Cheers

 you can but its not advisable. You'd want to have control over the tuning over the whole rev range. Plus you'll fail every emissions test as you'd want an ECU to tune at least every 100 rpm value if possible

Hahaha yea more than likely ;) Have the greenery to compinsate though I must admit! I'm us born anyway :p
