i just changed my lifters from 1g to 3g to stop the annoying ticking. i followed the instructions here > http://www.vfaq.com/mods/lifters.html i double checked everything and it all looked fine when i put the rocker cover back on, my car has now been idling for about 10 minutes and the ticking is still worse then ever  should it take this long for oil to circulate or am i having a problem?

It takes quite a while for the oil pressure to build up completely and get rid of any air in the system that got in while you did the change over ;)

have faith bro soon you will be smiling bigtime with the quite 4g63t the way it was meant to sound

Why does everyone replace their lifters just to get rid of the tick!!???

there are other remedies to shut them up, that cost 1/15 of the cost of new lifters!

CLuTZ the born sales man still trying to palm off the additives

Why wouldn't you go the path of fixing the issue

I prefer and recommend the later "fixing it"...I don't like band aids solutions

glad other like minded see it the same way FTW.

yeh ihate bandaids too, there good for temp solutions, not for the long term though. hey liberoz....ho long would u anticipate it to take to stop ticking? :?

My freshly rebuilt engine took around 15mins of driving PN: not idling when we did my mates EIII it took about 15minutes of driving and was loud as all @#$% after we did the swap on idle,

So took it for a spin and about 15minutes later all of a sudden within around 30seconds it went from tick tick to silent

ah see theres my problem...no licence = no driving :? hehe oh well i can already here starting to get quieter so my mind is now at ease. thanks for ur words of wisdom bro.

mine where fine as soon i put them in but maybe oil difference can have something to do with it???

they are much bigger when it comes to those holes on the top and most likely they won't get blocked as quick as the 1g(an needle hardly goes in them)

i got them ages ago from a dude on ebay who sold his car b4 he got around to installing the new lifters. cant remember the exact price but i kno it was somehere above 100 dollars

Well FYI im not selling any additives at the moment, but in all seriousness, if you guys wanna spend hundreds on new lifters thats fine- all for "fixing" something thats not actually broken, just noisey??

Band aid or not, it "fixes" your problem of noisey lifters, for a good 4000kms- for $6.

I've said it before, and i'll say it again- if you're going to keep your car for 10 years, fine- replace the lifters. If not- why not spend your money elsewhere???

What additive was it, just out of curiosity? I tried a few but never had much success with them. Mine are 3g now - just interested.

pro-ma mbl8 is the only one that people have come out with a good result i believe

it depends though.. if people can get lifters for $100-200 and can install them themselves then its worth doing the lifters... otherwise if the car will be short term, chuck in additive until your ready to sell

i had my lifters done because i tried all these dodgy nulon additives etc. which never worked... but by the sounds of this Pro-ma stuff, it sounds like its got a very good rep

15-40 fuly synthetik oil will do the trik the ticking noise only happns becuse the oil get thin around the lifters

 here we go again the grand old oil debate....

Its actually caused by staved/blocked oil feed holes in the hydrolic lifters.

Have you ever run an old 4g with only half the amount of oil needed ?
