J Spec GSR Speed limiter

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

Remove the cluster and on the rear of cluster its a small phillips head screw that you need to remove with the letters RSW next to it.

What actually happens when u reach the speed cut?? does anyone know??

also i thought removin the bolt effects the tacho only, isnt the speed cut got something to do with the ECU?

in reverse order

No. The ECU takes its signal from the tacho

and the engine shuts down spark/injectors so basically you get a massive bang and you get thrown forwards because the acceleration suddenly stops.

is this the same with evo's im sick of my limiter
cd9a e1
yes same tufrice do it as you are obviously retching the limits and its acually effecting you so just do it.

i havent hit the speed limiter yet.. i hit 180 today.. but that was the end of the clock and didnt want to go any quicker .. so i decided to jump on here and ask you guys..

would an apexi rsm help?

Cuts just after you pass the 180 mark on the speedo. Car just feels like you back off and brake a bit at the same time, takes a couple of secs before you can hit the accellerator again.

Right click: Save as

Short 2mb vid of me "testing" the speedcut in my old GSR. You can hear it accellerating and then just backs off by itself.

is it just me or did u stretch 4th gear to 170?
Stretch? In my GSR I usually hit 180km/h at the top of 4th before changing to 5th.. I usually change between 7k and 7.5k.

EDIT:
Sorry, that was a bit of useless information without saying that my GSR is a-spec and I have a few evo bits including an evo3 turbo which pulls hard (like an adolescent boy in the girls change room) all the way to redline.

ok sweet so thats my problem also, the car just jolts as soon as i hit around the 180klm/h mark, so u say this screw gets rid of that

damn i bought a HKS SPEED LIMIT DEFENCER (SLD) does anyone wanna buy it :p

So you telling me theres a switch behind the cluster once the dial moves above 180km/h?

So alll your doing is setting a pin high or low on the ecu. If someone traces where that wire connects to on the ecu, you can just either connect that pin to ground or a voltage (you'd have to measure from the switch, could be 3-5-12v)

lol

edit: btw, 170 in 4th gear :| isnt that like extreme?

Yeah I short shifted most of the changes there, still had plenty of rpm to go. 180 easy in 4th gear if you let it rev.

That vid was taken the week the GSR died :(

Was giving it some shakedown runs on backroads before the drags on the friday. Shame coz I think 12.3 was well within grasp.

I actually wrote that comment, not p3akin. As for 170 in 4th gear being extreme, the answer is absolutely not, the 4G93 engines are made to rev like that, and whilst I admit I don't rev it past 6k when driving it around the local streets. When the time calls for it (track days, motorkhanas, drags etc.) I will happily rev the car that high and change gears between 7-7.5k.

yikes that high for daily shifting...
I don't see where I wrote that I revved to 6k for daily shifting?

If I decide I want to do a bit of lead-footing on the way home or through some twisties, I will usually change around 6k, but generally daily shifting is all freeway driving anyway so I'm lucky to get up to 4k.

Don't put words in my mouth :)
