Just Jap Oil Cooler

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

I bought the 7 row to use as the power steering cooler, It sounds silly but better than that ugly standard cooler going across the radiator. Steering feels the same.

If your interested I have an 11 row cooler which I don't need. brand new unused $60
It seems to be the perfect size to tuck behind the front bar or wheel arch.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but arn't relocation kits for people too lazy to undo the filter while they're undoing the sump plug? :p

I got one and am planning on fitting it as the stock filter location will be inaccesible once I put A/C back on and fit Intercooler piping across the top, anyone who actually changes there oil will kno the best place for a filter is down low and horizontal so when you unscrew it it doesnt make such a mess.

that and when you td-05 the 93t and use an evo/vr4 dump you get big big clearance issues... shaving a few mm off the dump gives around 1/2mm gap between the dump and oil filter... this heat probably isnt a good thing...

i see it as killing two birds withy one stone... filter will be easily accessible now and it never hurts to lower the oil temperature...

i had always planned to do this to my car... i found a supplier here in WA that does the identicle kit for $350... there is definatly ways to make an equivilent kit for cheaper but why bother with the hassle... go for it!

do you have an oil temp gauge in your car atm... it would be interesting to see how effective these are...

no i dnt but im thinking of getting one.

to see how much of a difference there is.

any one know where u can get a similar kit from?

just jap have moved and havent changed their number in there website or in yellowpages.

They are a great thing to have and worth every cent IMO! I have a billet alloy oil filter relocation kit on my car but I used my own hoses and extra connections and my own oil cooler (those hoses in the pic in the first thread are too long and useless for our cars so you will need to buy some extra -10AN lines and connections).

If you look at the pics below you can see that the bigger 19 row cooler can still fit in the factory location but vertically, and the backing plate has been cut right through to allow maximum airflow. The plate and remote filter mount have been reinforced with extra metal and welds so they dont move at all  . Changing the oil filter now would be a quick and easy job because there's no dump pipe in the frikken way and there's no excuses for not doing a regular oil change either

To combat the heat generated from the dump pipe the 2 x -10AN braided lines I've got coming from the 90 degree elbows in the 2nd pic have Earls 'flameguard' sleeves on them - and although my exhaust manifold, turbine housing and dump pipe are all HPC ceramic coated anyway I just wanted to ensure that heat protection took consideration in keeping the oil lines and intercooler piping cooler  This is just the way I mounted mine so there's probably a few ways you can do it :)

i was after ones with braided lines.

does anyone know the website address for the US based company that alot of guys off here hav brought gear off.

thanks

Hey guys does anyone run a inline thermostat on their
oil coolers ?
If not, whouldn't the cooler keep the oil cold (not reach operating temp)
in winter.
Grant..

Im pretty sure the EVOs and JSPEC VR4s have one built in to the oil filter housing, which is usually what you would tap to run a cooler.

You are right there are these two bolt kinda socket things on the housing does anyone know the size and type of thread they are, or do i hav 2 remove one? I think i need to tap into the oil system there and connect the hoses for the cooler.

If i remove one of the bolts wont oil start leaking out?

If you don't already have an oil cooler, either of the mention coolers will make a big difference.
My boss rally's his EVO 3 with the standard oil cooler and says that he has no dramas with oil temp. Bouncing his car of trees however is a different story.
I reckon the 11 row will do the job for ya.
