Guys what's the largest set of front brakes you can put on a gsr,
as i'm looking at doing a swap because i use my car for track work.
i know the ones off the evo 1,2,3 are a bolt on thing but i want to know
is there anything bigger i can use, iv'e looked through some old posts and it looks like getting brakets to mount the caliper is the hardest thing in the hole conversion, is this the case.

Thanks Grant

you could infact adapt most larger calipers to the GSR but YES brackets will need to be made.(you are limited buy your rim size and budget)

Best option! Stay with the evo 123 2 spot caliper put a GOOD set of pads suited to your application. Brake master stopper, and some high end brake fluid.

Rob with the yellow drag evo runs the evo brakes and he is stopping from 144mph to 40mph (with aid of a shute) Now if brakes were going to fade that would do it!

just remember cheap product - cheap results there is a reason endless pads are expensive, they work!

324mm GTR Skyline front rotors (might have even been 345mm?) and EVO Brembos were the biggest ones I ever saw on a CC Lancer. There could be bigger :)

are you saying the evo brembos are lighter then standard evo3 calipars?

im guessing your gonna end up with guard clearence issues with 17inch rims with offset to match the brembos?

I have these on my gsr, 4 spot brembos off a 944 turbo, think they are 285mm rotors, had to engineer the calliper brackets and have the rotors machined slightly to fit,but it is great on the track, the biggest drama is getting rims to fit over the callipers :?

Do you have any photos of the brackets you had made? What rotors did you use?

Which wheels did you end up using? What sort of offset/etc are they?

I have the E3 twin pots on my gsr, with decent pads and fluid they've held up alright on track days, but you'd want something a bit more serious if you were doing it regularly.

dont have any bracket photos Steve & not sure offhand what brand of rotors they are but will have a look tonight through my recipt folder to find out what they are.
I run my track tyres on a set of 17inch sparco rims like the ones in the pic and they have plenty of clearance but they dont have an offset stamp on them anywhere? I have a set of buddyclub p1 rims for my street tyres that are +35 but dont clear the callipers, even with a 4mm spacer I only have a mm or two of clearance...so am unfortunately going to have to get rid of them as they are a tad unsafe :p which is a bummer as they are really nice rims.

Thanks mate.

That's a bummer .. if +35 P1s don't clear, there's zero chance of mine clearing them.

I think I'll just buy a parachute and go drag racing instead

it depends a lot on the actual wheel too, not just the size & offset :p

Yeah I know mate, just the P1s have their spokes set a lot further out and are thinner than what's on mine, hence I seriously doubt they'll have any chance of clearing them :)

Some dude on the US galant vr4 forums is selling a complete conversion kit for a 1g DSM -> porsche 996 brakes. I dunno if there would need to be any chopping to make it fit. He's asking a mere 1300 dollars US for it, I bet it cost him a lot more than that to build :D

Cheers Trav, think I will appreciate them a bit more when i have an extra 50 or 60 kw after my engine is finished :D Had a look through my book and they are 285mm harrop rotors.

im sure they make a set for the GSR when i spoke to them and got a quote they did

Here are some pictures

details:
caliper: alloy caliper, much lighter than stock, twin pot, same as HSV's
bracket: billet alloy, bolts onto gsr's/evo's/vr4's/cordia's/magna's etc
rotors: 330mm mustang cobra rotors (need to drill them to 4 stud pattern)
hubcentric ring: used to centre the cobra rotors onto the mitsu hub
brake lines: need to get them custom made to suit (easy to do)
