Just wondering if piston/rod combo's from later model Evo's will work with the Evo 3 crank? e.g. are the bid ends the same size? For example could you use factory Evo 8 pistons/rods with the Evo 3 block/crank?

Cheers,

Tim

Im doing vr4 block, vr4 rods with evo 8 pistons.

Only thing I had to do was bore the gudgen hole in the rod bigger to accommodate the later model pistons. Everything else is fine :)

sorry to bring this up, but are you saying that is i use EVO 8 rods and pistons they should go straight in?

What if i use an EVO 8 crank too?

1- will it work?

2- will it be worth it? (I hear the EVO 8 gear is stronger than EVO2/3)

?

thanks

If the rod big ends were the right diameter I couldn't see why not. The bore to stroke ratio for pretty much all the 4G63 engines is the same isnt' it? 88:85mm

yeah i believe the later rod and piston combo will fit.

as shayne said same stroke etc...

same size big ends too.

So how would i go with a newer model crank then?

If I've had some crankwalk - wouldnt my crank be pretty much rooted?

Thansk for your help guys.

Depending on if it is crankwalk, and then how bad/far developed it is...

You can't use later model rods because the conrod bearings are different between early and late model evo.
You can use later model pistons, but you ahve to get custom rods with the piston pin diameter altered to suit the different later model piston pin bore size.

At the end of the day, with the rods and pistons so cheap already, just get proper early model EVO 3 pistons and rods as they come in the same comrpession ratio as later model evo 8 pistons anyway, but that wy they are a direct fit.
