Hey,

Is anyone on here looking at selling their Evo 4 and is from Melbourne?

I'm not fussed if it's a private import or a 6T9REP/reshell jobby, just as long as it is an Evo 4.

Send me a PM if you are thinking of selling. I'll also consider interstate cars.

Cheers

I like 4's. They are much rarer than 6's (heaps on the road), and even 5's are coming common in the eastern states.
The only thing a 4 needs is a Brembo upgrade and it would be sweet, something different.
Goodluck mate, I was keeping my eye on a silver 4 here in Adelaide, but it recently sold for much cheaper than his asking....

theres a yellow one on ebay somewere, its in craigyburn around the corner from me.....

Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies. I saw the yellow one on Monday, but it is a cut and shut job ... CE Lancer front welded on to the rest of an Evo 4. Pretty unnoticeable though but dodgy nonetheless and mechanically it was pretty stuffed - most rooted gearbox I've ever seen. I think a dude from Sydney has bought it so hopefully he joins the forum.

Yeah I've emailed the guy in SA with the silver one a few times, he said he got it from Melbourne.

I've always liked 4s, IMO they are the best looking ones, the 5 and 6 are no doubt superior cars but they look so overdone and I don't want to spend $20K just for a car.

That Evo 4 on Ebay is insane ... haha. Wonder how I'd go getting that one over the pits :)

Call techsport and ask them, I'm sure Jeff asked me about a yellow one also..

As for that one on ebay.. VERY NICE!!

Hey mate,

I looked at a white one in Melb yesterday. Something dodgy about it too ... It's got the correct bracing in the boot and all of the Evo 4 bits including AWD, AYC etc, it looks genuine etc. However it has Australian compliance plates (as per CE Lancer), the VIN number on the plate matches whats printed into the chassis etc, but there is also a Queensland mod plate from 2000 listing all the mods that would be required to bring a CE Lancer up to Evo 4 spec.

I guess it's been done in one of four ways:
* It's another cut and shut job, CE Lancer front welded on to Evo 4 from the firewall back (although I couldn't see any visible welding in the subframe)
* Someone has drilled out the VIN plates and put Aussie ones on to a genuine Evo 4 and somehow nicely printed the Aussie VIN on to the chassis
* Some rich/crazy person has done a FULL conversion to a CE Lancer (is that even possible?)
* Or Mitsubishi Australia imported a few for promo purposes or something ... don't know just an idea ...

So yeah, no yellow plate or 6T9REPs so far. Even a 6T9REP would be OK as it should at least be a full import car and not some shonky cut and paste.

Although I have to say of the 2 I've driven I haven't been that impressed by the acceleration compared to my boosted Evo 1 ... it's much less brutal on the 4s.

I'm interested in buying an early Evo as well, but I'm unaware of what numbers need to match & what else to look for, etc.

When you say: "no yellow plate or 6T9REP" what does this exactly?

I get the feeling trying to find a genuine early Evo is about as hard as tracking down a genuine Morris Mini Cooper S - far too many fakes out there.... : ( : (

Hey mate,

Basically Evos 1-4 were never on the legal import list for Australia, so they are hard to get. 5s and up are easier to get since they come under the SEVs scheme (I think that's right).

Genuine Evos 1-4 can only be brought in by personal import (you have to own it for a year or more while living overseas, apply for a personal import permit, then import the car and comply it once in Australia). Personal import cars will have a yellow plate in the engine bay stating that they are a personal import. These cars will have the correct CN9A, CE9A etc model numbers and are the most genuine ones you can get. People want more money for these.

There was a thing a while ago where you could import an Evo 1-4 (and other cars) as a complete parts car, and then some how get it registered. Someone else will be able to explain this better than me since I'm not fully aware of all the ins and outs. Basically the Vic Police would assign a new VIN number starting with "6T9REP......" which would be stamped over the original number. Then they could be registered. Vicroads recalled them a while ago (at their expense I believe) to make sure they complied correctly with ADRs, seat belts, mirrors, intrusion bars etc. 6T9REP VIN numbered cars are only registerable in VIC, QLD and I believe ACT or SA (not sure which). They are usually genuine cars in my experience but are a bit looked down on because they have no interstate rego ability, and sometimes shifties were pulled getting them registered.

Cheers
