Looking to buy a VR4 jspec or aus spec?

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

Aspec has a proper wing, j-spec one is rubber.
All A-spec's have map lights/climate control/cruise.
A-Spec has electric antenna in rear 1/4. Most J-spec's have it in the rear windscreen.
A-spec's have sexier tail lights than most of the standard J-spec ones.
A-spec's jenerally have more k's unless they have been rebuilt/engine changed.
A-spec has 240km/h speedo, J-spec is 180.
Stock A-spec is tuned for 91 octane fuel, hence less power than J-spec. All A-spec ECU's are chippable and dataloggable, though.
J-spec mirrors fold in electronically, A-spec's are manual.
Pre-90 J-spec instrument cluster changes colour between green/orange. A-spec just green.
Stock A-spec has a teeny "intercooler" that's about the size of an A4 piece of paper folded in 1/2 and about as thick/deep as 2 fingers. J-spec cooler is good for ~400hp with 2.5" in/outlets & piping.
J-spec is of course lighter.
J-spec has the dual runner "cyclone" inlet manifold which aids low/mid range power. A-spec has single runner inlet manifold/no butterflies etc hence provides better top-end power than the "cyclone".
A-spec's have twinpot brakes and 1" master cyl. J-spec's have single pots and smaller master (pre-90).

I think that's about it. I guess the only other plus of an A-spec is that all the manuals, fuse boxes etc are in english ;)

If I think of anything else I'll update :p

Facelift JDM's have map lights, climate control, centre dash console lid, speaker grilles in front doors, antenna in the rear quarter, single board ECU's, 'proper' wings, twin pot brakes and the best tail lights and front bumpers, by far!

jspecs are more powerful out of factory not because of the fuel octane diff... its due to a few factors

1 being bigger intercooler
2 being better inlet manifold
3 less emission control
4 lighter car
5 i think but dont quite... jspec run a bit higher boost from stock

i know my jspec didnt run 7psi was more like 10-11psi solid

Cheers Grant

Intercooler & tune are really the only 2 factors. For max top end power, the A-spec inlet is "better". Both ozzie and jap run the same stock boost, which may now vary between cars that are 15-19 years old.

Car being lighter doesn't affect it's power output :)

Not being anal but i think the standrd JDM cooler has 1 3/4 In inlet/outlets..the Evo O/RS/Super Vr4 has the 2 1/4 size..

]What year did facelifts start from? 90? Sound slike iim after a facelift J Spec if I can find one.

They started in 89..easiest way to tell one is tail lights, and or front bar driving lights.

Nah, you're not being anal, that's what I meant anyway :) Good for 400hp with the in/outlets changed to 2.5"

dont forget the oil coller missing on the aussie specs. and the steering wheel but that doesnt mean that much

Ah, yesss! Forgot about the oil cooler :) The cooler is actually not missing from the A-spec it's just a different type. The J-spec is air-oil, the A-Spec is water-oil using the engine coolant. 8)

my jspec stock boost is 7psi

It should be 10-11 psi, either someone has played with yours or the boost control solenoid is not working.

My mate had a bone stock VR4 and it ran 7psi also. Hit 10 psi with a pod filter and 3" exhaust off the turbo

well i don't know whether someone played with the car or what but since i had it the car was running on 7 as stock setup and i just switch to 15 when i need it.

and i have a big dump pipe and a 3" pod and still runs 7 but my exhaust is rather stock
