Hey,as the title says in looseing oil to my intake on my aspec

It only seems to be happening when i travel and am sitting on 100+km/hr with the side breather on the rocker cover connected to my intake pipe, If i leave it off i just a small drible and thats about it just seems to suck it out at a high rate with the hose connected. to my brothers house and back ita about 600km and ill use from the full mark to the low mark on the di stick.

Would not haveing a oil cooler contribute to this? as sitting on higyway speeds im sure the oil would get fkn hot and thin right out and a mechanic friend of mine thinks it wouldnt be helping. At some point the motor had a jspec oil pump houseing fitted but the air cooler wasent fitted,i put my jspec oil cooler on yesterday.

I have a nonvented catch can fitted as i want to keep this car kinda legal. I removed the pcv valve to day and ran the line straight to the catch can and then to my intake and the side breather straight to the intake.

At some point the motor had been rebuilt but i just havent had time to get a leak down test done. I just done the head gasket to could i have bothched somthing up here?
Ive only traveled in this thing one before the x-mas cruise and its always seemed to use a little more oil than it should maby the hot weather is a factor.
oil is gtx-3 15w-40

also when i had the head off the pistons were caked in what apeard to be burnt oil and it was a real pain in the arse to get off.

cheers

have you had a compression test done since this problem has showed up

maybe the piston rings have worn down excessively, or maybe the bores are out of round

Is it blowing smoke when ur accelerating?

I doubt using that much oil would be due to worn rings.. but stranger things have happened.. have you check all oil lines, looked underneath the car, made sure everything is tight and right?

It's more likely to be due to a cracked ring land than anything else if it's pushing oil out of the breathers.

If it's not, it's probably the turbo oil seal leaking into the exhaust housing.

Roy, whack some cheap clear fuel filters in the rocker cover vent lines to see if it's caused by blow-by or not. It would be unusual to have blow-by while cruising though.

And no, oil temps are at their lowest while cruising due to minimal engine load and good airflow over everything. Put some boost into it and the oil temp will rise quickly though.

cracked ring land will cause a lot of smoke and you will notice it. (speaking from experience), sounds like blow by to me

isnt when you rockercover shatters and when you dipstick blows out another way of telling if youve got a cracked ringland because of the combustion pressure relieving itself into the sump?

I would like to see crank case pressure 'shatter' a rocker cover. Cranks case pressure will release out the easiest exit, usually the dip stick. Higher pressures will blow out oil seals particularly in the block.

Most 4g's when a lil worn or have blocked breathers will easily pop out the dip stick, especially when given a hard time and oil pressure is at its peak.

then what would shatter a rockercover then

its just i saw it on a mates el falcon and it had a cracked ringland it didnt blow out dipstick our oil seals it just shatterd the rockercover
it was on youtube for a while

I was gonna say, don't stick those clear fuel filters inline, cos when you boost hard the dipstick will probably pop out and spray oil all over the engine (not fun). They don't seem to flow well, I guess because they were meant for liquid, not moist gases.

I wouldn't have thought they would need to flow THAT much unless you have major problems, but they would be fine under cruise conditions which is where Roy seems to be having the most problem.

I did have one of those clear filters on the side breather line and it still sucked oil through on my last trip down to the GC but not alot pooled up in it just seems to get to the intake hit the opposite side and then pool up at the bottom then get sucked through the turbo.

Did a sort of compression test, the tester i borrowed has a 45deg fitting on it which got in the way of the plug hole.Had to remove the rocker cover just to get it in and i couldent screw it in fully. Got aroung 155/160 psi across all four. Makeing up a extension out of a spark plug this weekend so ill have another go then.

I dont know WTF this thing is up to, i drive 120km round trip to work and its fine. The wife spends five friggen minutes in it on her 40km round trip and the friggen dip stick pops out!!!AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

the pcv valve isnt there anymore, that port goes straight to the catch can. Doing that seems to have realy reduced the problem

Its clean and moves freely though but ive never seen a good one to compare it to and it did leak a little under boost.
