Anyone able to help 'vi' complete loss of power, wont go any faster than 40km, 1st gear to go up a 2degree incline, rev range takes over but nothing but noise and a foul burning smell, im thinking manifold may have gone????? everything is in running order no over heating or access fuel burning, and it aint me clutch... i dont flog it so i cant work it out only 74000km on clock im friking confused, timing belts are new tooo sooo confused....lucky i was was only around the corner from home..... help
 
Its a little hard for us to help you when you don't describe the problem very well?

Noise? What noise? Where is it coming from? burning smell? What does it smell like? Plastic? Fuel? Oil?

Did you do anything to the car before you started having these problems?

the noise is just the car rev'ing as if i put me foot on the clutch and pressesd accelerator, but will jump from 3g to 5 1/2 back to 2g then back to 3 whilest on the move... when in idle mode nothing seems wrong just as i start to move i go nowhere, or just crawl, rev range will build up but power dosnt exist... the burning smell is like plastic/oil/ rotten. The car hasnt been modified in any shape or form
 
Your clutch is gone my friend.

Sounds like it is slipping when comming onto boost (power starts to override the clutch).
 
Yep sounds like clutch, have you had the car since new? previous owner might of gave it a good thrashing here n there. Or a major blockage somewhere could also cause some of your problems aswell...
 
How confident are you mechanically?
I think the best thing would be to take it to someone to get it checked out.
 
master cylinder gone as well as clutch thanks heaps
whats an average price???
might get some sleep now cant be bothered putting back together

...Only had the girl 2months so pricing parts is still confusing me...
 
Master cylinder - you can rebuild or replace.

Take it to a brake / clutch place to rebuild (cheaper)

As for a clutch, they can range from 500 - 1000 for a single plate setup.
It depends on what you are after.

transfer case perhaps like mine?

i can only go 20kms forward cant do anythign else lol
 
transfer case wouldnt smell polo.....i woulda said clutch too....just get a good clutch that will last champ:thumbsup:
