Lower Control Brace
Reducing alinement flexing and improves body rigidity. The lateral arm improves body and rigidity by connecting at the lower arm points. Thus preventing body flex and therefore dramatically improving steering, throttle response and traction. Simple structure connecting the lower arms mounts at two points. Made from high grade high tension lightweight aluminum. Available for the EVO 1-3

has anyone fitted these and if so how much a differance did it make?

Yes I have one fitted, it was noticable but i did not a huge difference. Thus saying this, i also have A pillar braces, front and rear strut braces and a 6 point roll cage, so much flexes at all...

now to make you cry..

I got mine second hand from an importer in perfect condition, except a couple of VERY minor scrtches in the paint on the underside for $50. :D

Have have not seen them anywhere else other than buying new and I cant remember how much they are.. sorry...

-Lower tie bar VI. - all cars same price - $149
Lower tie bar VII - all cars same price - $249

LOWER ARM BAR VERSION I
GOOD FOR
Reducing alinement flexing and improves body rigidity.
The lateral arm improves body and rigidity by connecting at the lower arm points. Thus preventing body flex and therefore dramatically improving steering, throttle response and traction.
FEATURE
Simple structure connecting the lower arms mounts
at two points.
MATERIAL
High tension lightweight aluminum.
FITTING
Bolt-on. (comes with bolts on some models)

LOWER ARM BAR VERSION II
GOOD FOR
Reduces alinement flexing and improves body rigidity.
Connects the lower arm mounts by multiple bolts and the lateral and foe aft rigidity is greatly increased over Version I. Body rigidity is maintained on even the hardest of cornering and dramatically improves the steering, throttle response and traction.
FEATURE
Connects the lower arm mounts at numerous points.
MATERIAL
High tension lightweight aluminum.
FITTING
Bolt-on. (comes with bolts on some models)

AVAIL for
CE9A, CD9A
CN9A, CP9A
CT9A
on certain cars, is option to use both ver I & II in conjunction

I don't think they look all that hard to make at all. Once you got your measurements sussed it should be easy :)

Like this for example:

LAB-TYPE2.gif

This looks as though it uses bolt holes that are already on the car (maybe longer bolts will be required).

What the go on materials though? like what sort of steel would you use? I have read that some are made from aluminium, and stainless, couldn't you use a similar steel to what roll cages are made from? just using smaller gauge pipe?

I think I might try to rig one of these up :D

You would use some alloy extrusion to make the cross bracing, and the rest is just pipe with a plate welded onto one side.

Make up a dummy one first with bracing in right spots and bolt down points, make sure it fits. Then make a jig with that first one. Then use the good extrusion and cut to lengths and measure up against jig (take note of cuts and lengths) put it together on the jig, tig it up, test it again that it fits then start your global production of chassis braces.

All helps when you have a TIG Welder

Just need the doner chassis brace

JETGSR

Yeah I'll be after one of these as well for mine too. If they sell for EVO 1-3 then we know they will fit up to GSR's, CC sedans, CC Wagons, CC coupes, Protons GTi, Satria and M21

The one i have is a CUSCO unit which is slightly different to the one shown above. It is made from steel not aluminium or stainless steel. So i am guessing the same sort of grade as used in roll cages etc...

On my GSR it does bolt onto existing mounting points. Which are the front control arm bolts where it goes to the cross member and also onto the rear control arm where the castor bush mounts to the body. I did not need to use longer bolts as the metal thickness where it bolts onto is only minimal (approx 3mm).

boost :D

Yes it does stick down a bit, but my car isn't overy low so i dont have too many problems with it. Although it has scraped the odd time when i have been pushing it hard whilst driving in the classic adelaide rally.

If you look at the photo, you can see how low it sits.. :D

Thanx for posting that pic Mimmo. It all makes sence in what it does.
Another 2 gusets could be added from the control arm U bracket towards
the exhaust to triangulate it to stop it from flexing. I have mega road
clearance, so I'll make myself one out of 20 x 12 shs stainless. 8)

JUST JDM sell the cusco units for the Evo 1 - 3

They are also $250.. maybe we can do a group buy? Im interested but that said i dont know if it would clear my exhaust.

Jon,

I have a Mines 3" exhaust from the turbo back and previously had a Blitz 3" exhaust and neither had any problems with clearing the brace. So I would think that you should be fine..

If somebody would do without theres for a week,

I'll make them for you ! just a little over cost (to cover gas and rods)

As i posted before i just need it to make a jig!

I recon they might come up to $100 bucks each

I guess i could buy a cusco one and charge $200 to make them

naturally with a 15% change to the design :D

Good ideas from both JSTYLE & JETGSR... Either way, a group buy would be sweet and I'll line up for one.

Unfortunately I wont be able to remove mine and spare it for any period of time at the moment. As i am currently getting car ready for a photo shoot and also a car show. My car will also be for sale in the near future and need to have all items on car to help with sale.

Sorry....
