Help Support 4GTuner:

Rear u can use the EVO mech LSD just throw the GSR crown

Front will need to be aftermarket i assume

Factory GSR RS viscous front LSD gearboxes are rare as. Every now and then one will come up in the NZ forums for sale but they get snapped up quickly.

They also came out with rear LSD, but again they are hard to find especially in Australia. You are better off sourcing a rear mech LSD centre from an EVO 2/3 and throw it into your GSR rear diff housing using the GSR crownwheel and pinion to create a GSR ratio 3.545 mech LSD rear end.

OR alternatively, ditch the GSR box and diff and get an EVO box with factory front viscous LSD and an EVO mech LSD rear diff.

phark a front LSD, pretty pointless especially for a street driven car.

As mentioned grab an evo rear lsd and use the GSR crown to keep the same gearing (3.9). Try to avoid evo 1 LSD's as they're viscous type as opposed to mechanical in later evos.

hi.
Just wondering what are the differences between an evo gsr and evo rs lsd gearbox-evo1-3?

I reckon the viscous lsd's are perfect for normal street and occasional fang use as they don't change the way the car behaves in turn in etc. Mechanicals (not helicals) are basically "locked" until they start to slip.

From the factory the mitsi plate lsd's don't have any preload - so you don't have to put up wit hall that binding/etc in carparks.

also, evo1 rs and vr4 rs (evo1 gsr has viscous) have a 1 way plate diff - they don't lock under decel.

evo2 and 3 (gsr and rs) have a 1.5 way plate diff - there's some locking action under decel.

That's exactly what I've had checked and thought all along. Some of the boys on here reckon they do though.

EVO 1 GSR had a viscous rear LSD.
EVO 1 RS had a mechanical plate type rear LSD (believed to be 1 way).
EVO 2/3 GSR & RS's had mechancial plate type rear LSD's (believed to be 1.5 way)
I cant comment on the 1 way/1.5 way claim as I havent done nor seen any comparisons to prove it or otherwise.

Very true Rob. I did notice a big difference with the responsiveness of the car when I was tracking it with the mech rear LSD.

But at my level of driving ability - a viscous vs mech won't make or break a lap record!
