FYI to anyone who is/will be shopping for car insurance. Lumley Special Vehicles who took over:

  • Torque Underwriting
  • Prestige Car Insurance
  • Vigil Underwriting and
  • Unique Car Insurance.

No longer insure the following types of vehicles

Cars...... hehe ok maybe not to that extreme. But anything that is daily driven, and is not a classic car, you can't insure ie; My VR4 as they no longer have a modified category.

So not only did LSV take over there competition. We now have lost another insurer..

So, having said this.. Anyone recommend me one that isnt just cars?? Or is Just Cars it??

Cheers
Denis

HAVE FOUND:

Famous Car Insurance - www.FamousInsurance.com.au
Just Car Insurance - www.justcarinsurance.com.au
Shannons Car Insurance - www.shannons.com.au (Pricier than the others)

Shannons. Become a CAMS official (easy work.. become a trackie for the V8's or something) and then tell them how you rarely drive the car, etc.

I can't see how they can ever prove that your car is a daily or not.

Use a broker.

Stop dealing direct with the monkeys at the insurance company. You might pay 40 dollars extra for the broker fee but seriously, it's worth it.

SHANNONS through and through mate!!! They are awesome and their prices surprised the fuk outta me - its just like insuring a normal car! (if you're 30+ yrs of age its great). They also do pay by the month insurance, normal green slip insurance and home insurance too. Their prices for green slip even, which I compared recently, was $90 cheaper than NRMA, $40 cheaper than GIO and AAMI. You gotta love that!

Hrmmm.. Ill probably call shannons up then and see what they can do for insurance on the VR4 when its ready.. Any suggestions on the brokers??

Just call them up and you speak to someone over the phone, usually a car enthusiast themselves. All I had to do was explain the car, the mods etc and they determined a price over the phone and can send you the policy straight away. f you want to increase the cover you have to send through photos and engineer certificate but most people wouldnt have to do that. Costs me $72 month for full cover. Was $308 for Greenslip :)

Got the Lancer and motorbike through Shannons... The Shannons rep even gave me the details of an engineer to pass my car... And the bike insurance was half the cost then what I was paying thru NRMA.. I have The FTO insured thru LSV. $200 odd per qtr.. And modified.. I had an at fault accident, and had the c/f bonnet on the policy.. And they are replacing it...

rock it. Just so you know. LSV no longer do modified cars.. They will continue to renew your policy but they wont take on new business.. I had a previous car with them.. Went to change the car and they said no.

whats wrong with just cars? ive been with them for all my cars

i pay about $1400 a yr and i have a list of mods that takes up about 2 pages lol, they insure the the lot even if its ilegal, fibreglass bonnet etc, fuel setup in boot etc etc etc, sound system , rims, and for $50 extra a yr you get to claim 1 crash a yr which doesnt affect your premiums the next yr (if that makes sense)

I just dropped LSV for both my cars, more specifically because they dropped my agreed value of my mazda 6 mps by 10 grand in a year and bumped my premiums up $500 per car
paying $1000~$1200 each car with shannons with all mods included at agreed values with salvage rights and a hire car if 1 of them gets nicked / burned / crashed etc etc

I am going to try shannons, but I think I will be considered high risk, claims galore and 1 ticket.

You have to be 25 or shannons won't even look at you though. That's why I haven't insured anything with them yet.

No you don't. That's just what they tell the people they don't want to insure.

I had my Evo insured with them when I was 22.

with shannons if you have had 1 speeding ticket in the last 5 yrs you ar deemed "high risk" and they wont insure you.
Thats crap, I told them I got done speeding last year doing 72kmh in a 60 zone on Pennant Hills Rd Sydney and he didnt say shit. He said it didnt effect my cover at all. Maybe they dont like insuring you Adrian because YOU ARE HIGH RISK! lol :w00t::p

Im over 30 and it costs me a little over $800 per year for full cover at value of $20,000. Even though I had receipts and proof for spending over double that, they class the converted coupe as a GSR/EVO replica and said that if it ever is a write-off I should be able to buy another decent GSR with the money and transfer my useable parts over lol.. smart c*nts they are. $20,000 wont ever replace the AWD coupe or the money spent on it, but it is at least better than nothing and not insuring it. Im glad I dont pay $2500+ per annum like some people do.
