if you have a vr4 ecu and harness in the car you may struggle with just plugging an evo 3 ecu into the current setup...I think you may need a rewire...

evo-gsr, the OP stated a few posts back that he has " a lancer gsr with vr4 4g63t motor. has the vr4 ecu and harness in it ". As mickyvr4 implies, it is not quite as straight forward as just plug and playing an evo/gsr ecu into the vr4 loom and engine. There are are a few significant differences in the pin outs, albeit not to hard to overcome if you are handy with reading diagrams and electrical stuff.

Adrian, there is nothing wrong with a chippable VR4 ecu. Its architecture is essentially the same as a later GSR/EVO ecu. They both have the same issues ie poor quality capacitors !! If you are not sure if your VR4 ECU is eeprom or not... take a photo of the board and post it up. Or post up the numbers on the case. A photo would be better. It would be easier to stay with the VR4 ecu, socket it ( in a suitable board !) and use ECMTuning chip and program it at your leisure ( or your tuner) . Makes it VERY easy to run different MAFs and injectors !!! Look up ECMTuning on the net. I've chipped roughly 25 VR4 and GSR/EVO ecus using ECMTuning and its fantastic. The chip is about the same cost as Meeks chip etc. Look, the Evo 8 ECU and EVO1-3 conversions have merit if you can do stuff yourself, or dont mind paying some one .. but maybe keep it simple ! Our gravel rally VR4 is the fastest rally car here in SA , and top 5 nationally 4WD , and I still run the stock VR4 ECU, 055 AFM ! Apparently we need Motec or Autronics....LOL

I can help out with an MAF adaptor loom... I do these conversions all the time. PM me for more info on the adaptor loom and maybe chippable VR4 ECUs.

So it's either a vr4 loom or a gsr loom that's been patched well to suit all the vr4 sensors etc. definitely has vr4 evu.

thanks blackvr! I've listed in the wtb section for a EPROM vr4 ecu do I can get it chipped. I'll have a good look at the ECM tuning you suggest on the net as like you say it might be worth the dollars with possible future mods down the track. I have two 055,s here I'll check out that I scored for dirt cheap from a help yourself wreckers. They look to be in excellent condition. And will pm you regarding the adapter and a possible socketing job for you?. Thanks to all for there advice and input !
