Something i just discovered by accident whilst looking at the Magnus Motorsports website is that they sell the Aussie made (Sydney) brand 'PAR' rod as their own :) . Obviously the Americans dont trust no name brands so Magnus have probably taken PAR on board and selling them under their Magnus marque :) Go Aussie engieering! :D

Check them out:

what do you guys think of magnus's pistons and intake manny's?? good value? taking into consideration the shipping costs etc...

Do they say that they manufacture their own pistons? If not then they are probably the same as their rods, grabbed from somewhere else and sold as Magnus.

Their manifolds are awesome quality and found on many sub 10 second cars. They weigh stuff all and have a highly polished finished. I know cause I have one in my car and I bought it and Joeys (EVLJOE Satria) at the same time a few years back. They look the goods and flow a lot. In saying that however, they also have their disadvantages. i.e. where the throttle body flange is situated in respect to the clutch master cylinder and reservoir doesnt leave much room for a big throttle body. You will have to use a stock throttle body and 45-90 elbow to clear the reservoir, or have a custom tb and elbow made up to clear it. The other disadvantage is that there have been several big power cars in the US blow the intake manifolds up when giving them 30psi + NOS on the strip lol. The welds and thin sheet metal just cant handle it and they bulge out til the welds let go. For a 10 second street rego'd car with bling and show then yeah, they look schmick and do the job. But if you wanna use them on a high powered drag car (ie more than 30psi + NOS) then they are not the manifold for you.

They good units?
Not really. They're bulky and really quite heavy, and the finish they come with is pretty bad. You can expect to spend a few hundred over the purchase price getting them setup and finished correctly.

I can understand the '93 guys using them, as there isn't a lot available, but there's plenty of other brands out there for the 63/64. If I was doing it over again, I'd probably go for a set of Manly Turbo-tuff rods instead.

Also, PAR is in the process of relocating to somewhere in SE Asia at the moment too, so the Australian-made thing is out the window :)

I was actually looking at the manley gear. They do look like strong bits!

Although the Eagles have served me very well.

Anybody looking to purchase some PAR rods?
If so let me know, I may be purchasing a set, and they offer a discount for multiple purchases.

They do not do trade prices.
RRP for a 4 banger is 1200.00 per set.
If we get 5 sets, we can get them for about $800.00 per set.

Good for 1000hp! (HD units)

Hey Baz, Steve's onto something there as the quality must be slacking off on them. One tuner has always used them but I just found out over this weekend he has been getting a few failed units come back into the shop in the last few months and has since refused to go back to them. One of the gudgeon pins failed on a guys car I know using PAR rods and his engine has since been rebuilt with a different brand rod (Howies or something from California?). I hope PAR havent been getting their stuff made in China recently and thats why they are making the move over there? (cheap manufacturing over there tends to = poor quality) Eagles are by far the best bang for buck rod out there guys.

Hmm,
That rod actually looks ok for that type of damage to the piston.
What pistons were they?
It looks like the pins stuffed up....

That's not the first set of PAR rods I've seen fail in exactly that fashion either. The current design was supposed to address that failure, but in turn they just end up bigger and heavier.

Baz, add another $300 to whatever price you get to close/hone/balance the rods as their finish is pretty terrible straight from PAR. You'll see Manly, etc, aren't all that expensive then, when they're good to go straight out of the box.
