Hello to all,

I'm thinking of removing the speed limiter of my manual RVR HSG-R.
I tried the search function but couldn't find anything yet.
Or does it work the same as at the EVO's with the RSW screw on the back of the instrument cluster?

Are there any other modifications needed when removing the speed limiter?
The brakes for example. Can the standard HSGR brakes cope with the real top speed of the RVR of are they constructed for 180 km/h max?
I heard that euro spec Supra's have a bigger brake kit than JDM spec Supra's due to the JDM spec's limited top speed. Is this the same for the RVR HSGR?
Is it possible to fit a Space Runner speedometer in the RVR that tops at 230 in stead of 180 km/h. Or am I going to get problems with the scale of the two speedometers?

A lot of questions, I'm sorry.
But I find it a bit shameful that my 250hp RVR can't go faster than my neighbours Astra diesel.

should be about the same as a VR4/EVO

but your ISC may not work as it should when you disconnect the speed sensor...

If you can get your ecu board socketed for Eprom I could write you a custom chip with speed limit removed, boost cut removed etc.

I understood from the previous owner that they have had the limiter removed in the past. But put it back on to keep it stock.
He said something about the instrument panel. But what they did exactly he didn't say.

@JayRome
What do you mean with my ISC may not work.
I figure you mean the Idle Speed Control with ISC?
If that's the case what has my Idle Speed Control to do with the 180km/h top speed limiter the RVR is fitted with.

@vr401
Thanks! I'll keep that in mind!
I will check that out.
Keep in mind that I do live half way around the world.

Does anyone know if I have to mod my brakes when I'm going to remove the top speed limiter?
Or are the original brakes good enough?

Thanks p055um5!
How did you remove your top speed limiter? By chip or by removing a wire behind the instrument cluster?

You've done a lot to your HSG as I read in your sig. Mine's still completely stock. Exept for the Evo7 wheels.
I also have the original wheels with snow tires. And recently bought a set of 3000GT wheels.
Any idea what the unlimited top speed is of a stock RVR HSGR?

From what I know from here:
The Rvr are pretty close to the vr4 in looms and ecu.
Your previous owner had the limiter removed and then replaced it.
From us sites:
The wire on the back of the speedo needs removing on 1g to remove speed cut.

So, pull the speedo and undo the wire and try it out. (on a private road)

Thanks! Jack of all.
I'll try that out. I live close to the German border with a stretch of autobahn that has no speed limit.

I could only find how-to's for EVO 1-3. But wasn't sure because the RVR HSGR was built a bit later in '97.

I'll let you know when I have the RVR on the road.
