Its all up to who you get to tune your car, and which ECU they prefer.

Autronic ECU's are wayyy cheaper than motec's with the same features, just because they've probably sold more ECU's doesnt make them the king.

Part of the Motec cost is the brand name.

And seriously Dre, every top level motorsport team in the world uses Motec with the only exception that I know of being the Scuderia (Ferrari) F1 team which uses an in-house program devised with the help of Motec engineers but fully owned by Scuderia.

Oh and i'm not including drag teams... i'm talking motorsport with corners and something other than WOT settings.

Motecs are effectively infinitely tuneable, unlike an Autronic. They also have by far the greatest array of inputs/outputs and accessories. The facts are just that... the facts.

And before you spout any more crap about tuners, we tuned our own motec(s) for the ForumlaSAE cars. Motec is my personal preference but having said that, I don't own anything resembling a sports car anymore.
 
Autronic ECU's have as much -if not more- features as a motec ECU.

They might have sold more ECU's in this part of the world, but I cant see why you say they're the king of ECU's in the whole world, its just like saying honda has the best N/A engines in the world- there'll be alot of people who will disagree with you there.
 
Motec if u have cash
Autronic if u have more cash than normal
other ecu's if u want value

Give a few tuners a call, dont rely on us to inform you

Having not worked with Autronics I can't dispute this as I don't have first hand knowledge. But I have worked with pro spec motec's and the amount of things you can change is unbelievable. There's far more than what's advertised on the website and you can put in as many tuning points as you like.

This Motec vs Autronic thing is so last year.

Motec is not BETTER than Autronic. In fact Autronic is better in some areas over motec hands down. You cannot even really compare the 2 ecus? together as the ecu algorithms are based on 2 different strategies.

The Motec tech support (>one) however is very good I don?t doubt that, over Autronic (one person). The product overall is over priced. The pricing was fair for 1980's when no one was making ecu's, and here is where they built their reputation well.

Now you can get an ecu that slaps down a motec at 1/4th the price and with more i/o?s with w/b and knock included FREE, or shall we use motec talk..ENABLED. But some clown is gona say you don?t need knock or afr if the tune is perfect, they would probably say the same thing about ion sensing knock control too.

Everyday people on here lets compare apples to apples:

Motec m4 to the Autronic smc. The M4 doesn't even touch the smc for function and features. The software is so easy to navigate. BUT, bec the Autronic runs its math differently you have to use it differently. Is it better over motec in terms of fuel and ign control driving everyday, nope.

My only issue is Autronic?s screwed up 0-1v 0-5v 10-30 afr. That?s wack. Then having to use the lsm11 sensor that?s what?15 years old tech, and really is not a wideband sensor anyway. For Joe blow the smc is way better over the m4 hands down. The math tuning on the autronic is bad bad bad bad.

You can tune a 25psi pull in 1 full WOT pass! That in itself is unbeliveable. I tuned 3 boost setting from 1.5 1.65 1.8bar under 2 min's on the street. Thats driving, pulling over fixing the map raising the boost, driving, pulling over fixing the map raising the boost and then doing the last boost setting and fixing the map. I have in the past done this while drivng to work. Hows that for user friendly and easy to use.


My philosophy is why pay more than you have to.
Why pay for things you don?t need.
Why pay for something you need!
 
You make some interesting points, but again cars are not driving on WOT very much in comparison to their actual whole lifespan.

After that, i'm not making any more comments because this is going to turn into a "my daddy can beat your daddy" shitfight.
 
Darren at TRIKFAB told me that you can finish the first tune on the motec and then they lock up, so when it comes time to tune again you have to get motec to unlock it and it costs about $1000

I would go a Autronic anyday over a motec
 
In terms of microtech which was brought up by roger, my mech told me that they have only just introduced an o2 sensor but it can't be used for tuning.

Just about everyone I talk to says microtechs are something to stay away from.
 
but there are still alot of fast cars with microtech..

they are cheap, easy to tune and when u race, its really only about WOT..

a good ecu will give u good WOT and cruising abilities.. good idle characterics, ac control etc...

I would say Toyota and Nissan build the best N/A engines in the world :) But that's another thread! I'll stop hijacking now :wink:

No way are hoda the best. My mate had a hyundai excel. It was a korean import. All he did was put a muffler, pod filter and gt wing on it and it was crazy fast.

As for the Motec lockup issue. Motec's only lock up automatically when you flick the switch inside the case or you physically tell them to.
