Help Support 4GTuner:

ya think we can sneak off this saturday?? its only lee lee's bday party lol.

when are those coils supposed to get here anyway? that will be easy to do, could do that one night this week... actually thurs is the only night im free...

ok guys, well hold up as usual, drama. exhuast places ripping holes in fuel tanks and not admiting it. all the fun stuff.
anyway its running properly, everythings installed everything is working best i can tell.
oh besides a small idle issue. but other than that it drives well and goes bloody well seen i cant give it much!!
its still not tuned, thats just waiting on money now.
but good sign is, even on half throttle, i got 12.6psi boost at just under 3000rpm!! so seems quite good so far, but worried the engine might be restricted a bit if it does have different cams being an ex auto. time and a tune will tell.

VR4 cams got for S.F.A these days!!!

yeah i know, but can you change them without reseting the timing belt? you know what that means on a borg!! engine out.

you can do a timing belt on a cyborg or gsr with out taking the engine out ive done about 10 and never required too take1 motor out u just have too either drop the crossmember too undo the crank bolt too get lower timing cover off with out breaking it but other then that its straight forward

i dont have one of those tools or enough room to get the thing down there!! there is onlu like 14 to 15mm between the timing cover and side.

yes u really on change belts if theyve done heaps of ks,or if theyre oil soakd due too cam or crank seal or rocker cover gaskets or even if youve just rebuild the motor or if youve just bought a 2nd hand motor and aint sure on the service history, but on the same boat its a good insurance too replace wen youve got the timing covers apart cos as we all now they can a prick at times too pull apart

and as for tools you dont exactly need specialty tools, right angle circlip pliers work too put tension on belt and for the auto tension itself if u can find sum1 with a bench vise tighten it up till u can slip a allen key into the adjacent holes or make a key too fit if buying an auto tension it should come with the key im talking about and yes i now theres no room cos i can barely get my hand in and my hands are tiny

ah man you really need to read the whole thread to know whats going on. the engine has brand new timing belt on, with everything i have done i sure was not going to risk that!!

i dont know about you guys with a cb gsr but i cant get the bottom crank pully off with the engine in, which means bottom timing covers also, let alone try and get a tensioner done and belt on properly and lined up without pulling the engine, gvr4 and cc gsrs and evos yeah can be done, and i have done them but its easier to pull the engine in a cb than do it in the car.

ill be waiting for the dyno to make sure it can hold the boost to 7 before i get to worried about what cams it has just yet.

yes cb lancer gsrs you have too drop the crossmember because there isnt enough room too get the harmonic balancer off and also undo the 22mm bolt that holds the crank pulley, so there is enough room too remove harmonic balancer

when i cracked the head on my 4g61 N/A cb gsr, me being young and stupid used the biggest piece of pipe i could find too use as a pry bar and of course i snapped the lower timing cover in half i got the pulley off lucky its was due for a new motor soo it came with the covers

soo that was my learning curve on how to get the lower cover and harmonic balancer off

I just installed a new cover in my borg simon, didnt have any issues, do you have this issue since 63 swap? or have you always had it?

nah always had the problem, it just doesnt clear enough to get the cover off properly, i have done the balancer before and even that was a head ache lifting the engine up and down to get the thing out.

we will all see if the cams need doing anyway when it gets tuned, i dont even wana think about it till then, have enough little issues to sort till then.

yer ive had the drama before on not only my cb lancer gsr but alot of cars that have no room too move around in the engine bay soo try dropping cross member there should be 4 17mm bolts and then there should be enough room too get harmonic balancer off and in return you can get the bottom cover off

thats how ive done timing belts on all the cb gsr that ive done timing belts on

ok guys, tune is happening friday so ill keep you all posted.
also getting some tinted windows finally.
wheel alinement and air cond regas also. needs some comforts for a daily driver.

hi guys,
well got some tuning done, not as much as i would have liked, but the main thing is air/fuel is nice and safe, a little rich, but thats good till i get some boost problems worked out. only made 130kw at wheels on a mainline awd roller. problem is its not holding boost, builds up nice and fast, comes on really strong but just dies off, higher in the rpm it drops right down to under 13psi. will get some dyno sheets posted soon so you can all see whats happening. few things to check out also. problems with boost controller isnt helping. drop off could be caused by boost controller, the cams being from auto engine? or ven small exhuast housing on turbo, will have to see what we can sort out.
saying all that, its not slow by any means!!! its still quite a hand full how hard it comes on. found out that my lsd definatly works!! from dead stop, turned a corner and took off in first with foot going flat before i straighted up and it stepped sideways!! good fun.
will keep you all posted on how things go.

well found out why i am having issues!!!
i checked my rad over flow last night and its all murky, rad the same.
popped the oil cap, choccie milk shake!!
so cracked head or head gasket, pretty sure its just head gasket though, so engines coming out again to fix, looks like i am in for some late nighters!! we sold our spare car cause mine was going again so i need a car asap!!
fingers crossed it all happens easy enough, lots of stuff to change!!.
