Okay I went down to this place where I have bought tyres/wheels from before.
I asked for some decent grippy tyres for the GSR (new wheels).
He suggested Nankangs (forgot which model) 205/40/17.
$125 each fitted and balanced.
I've had a look on a few different forums and responses about Nankangs varies from them being shit noisy and wearing quickly to grippy and having good wear.
Does anybody have Nankangs or have any suggestions about what other tyres could be good at a reasonable price.

Thanks again guys

i got referred to them aswell because im looking for tyres at the moment too.
they're not the best tyres going around thats for sure.
but i think for the price you pay, and for the type of tyre you want they're good bang for buck.

You definately pay for what you get when it comes to tyres. If you dont care about how well your car handles- i.e it is ridiculously low and your suspension settings are way out then they are fine- if you are looking at some sort of performance, then forget about some nankangs and say hello to some Toyo T1R

For a street driven car the Nankangs are fine.
The price of some of these things is ridiculous. unless your doing track work i wouldnt bother.
if you just want something to roll on, like me, and your car is ridiculously low, like me :p go the nankangs. :D

Yeah but Dre how much are the Toyo T1R?

since tyres are not only a handling issue but also a major safety issue in your car, i wouldn't get cheap stuff.

A good street tyre IMO is hankook ventus k104, theyre about $200 per piece last time i checked (205/40/17).
It's alittle more expensive but you'll be driving on these tyres for a good year or more.

I bought a set of Bridgestone Adrenalin recently 205/45/16 for $180. The Potenzas I've had in the past normally wear very well (40K)

I'm sure the Falken ZE's go for around $140-$150 each last time I checked for the Mrs car a few weeks ago. Worth checking them out too.

I would deffantly go with the toyo i have them done easy 35k and not even half worn only about 200 buks each.

k104s are terrible!! I have them on my civic (which has DMS coilovers so you cant blame the suspension :p )

Id go Hankook RS2s over anything that has been mentioned already, they rock...

yeh went to donelleans before they wanted $180 for each for Hankook K104 205/40/17.
Okay I really need to know what tyres I'm going to get by tomorrow morning ..
If anybody in Melbourne know of any places in the S.E. areas with good tyres for under $200 each LET ME KNOW!!!!

Toyo Proxes 4's are what i've got, pretty good but i've only had them for a couple thousand k's. And they're only around 150 bux.

Or what about kuhmo extas or however you spell it?

Bridgestone MYO1 they a wicked tyre for the right price i got 215/40/17 i got for 160 buks ea got close on 80k out of them and it wasnt a easy 80k

yeh i got kuhmo ecsta's on my car atm and theyre not bad. cant remember the exact model but i know they got supra written on em lol
a good allround tire in wet and dry
but im getting new wheels which are 17x8.5 so i gotta sus out some good tires for these soon

*edit, theyre Called "Kuhmo ECSTA Supra 712's" and i got em in 215/35/18

I got Bridgestone potenza Adrenalins, good tyres, grip well esp once warmed up, I think they were a little over $200 ea from Bay RD Bridgestone in Cheltenham. Go and see Rob or Clint in there.

Agree K104s are shit. The Hancook distributor told me that RS2s were no longer available and that the K104s were the replacement, so I tried a set out .. and they're fucking terrible.

In my opinion, the best money you can spend on a car like this is on the tyres. Going from a reasonable set of road tyres (and I wouldn't even put Nangkangs in the 'reasonable' category) to a set of _decent_ tyres (or better yet - semi slicks - if you can deal with the compromises) will give you the biggest grin-per-dollar over anything else you can buy for your car.
