Hi All - just joined - thought I'd say hi and introduce myself.

I got Tonka about 5 months ago off a mate....2 owner yellow 89 CA Lancer SX 2 door with 136k on the clock. Pretty clean (pics below), good fun to drive and like the budgie - 'cheap'. Definately not as tasty as many of other members cars - but it is a 4G :)

I'm realy looking forward to getting tips from you experts! Finding getting parts really hard, esp body and trim.

overall, I want to get Tonka a little more tidy/clean and maybe get a little bit more 'go' out of her. Aim of this car is to be fun and make people (and me) smile.

Previous cars (in Aus) include a MkII Scorpion, Galant SE, VR Commodore. Wife has a 99 Magna. So we are now a Mistu familly again.

Jobs 'To Do' on Tonka include:

  • repalce broken window regulator (plastic guides that keep the class steady on the channel) - awaiting delivery of new regulator (expensive 'ouch')
  • Annoying noises from the front end when you brake, since having changed the front rotors and pads for RWC
  • How to/can I fit a baby seat to the back seats (no mounting points)
  • Replace stereo (aux in req'd) and update speakers should I cut he doors to fit 6" speakers or just replace the 4's in the dash??
  • Replace (or find out how to remove) broken mirror glass from door mirrors (electric ones, glass doesn't want to come out)
  • Paint door mirrors (scraped up etc)
  • New rear bumper bar - pushed in
  • Clear indicators
  • Rear headrests (think think they are GSR items)
  • Nicer/deeper from bar - GSR item or last of line CB plastic item?
  • deeper dish steering wheel - any ideas?
  • Nicer rims (what'll fit??)
  • Maybe lower it a little
  • How to get more go out of i without killing fuel consumption
  • Get 'Tonka Taxi' stickers and Taxi racing stripes :)

Hey Skuz
Had a number of formative years in UK (but don't hold it against me), came back to Aus in '99

:confused:Errr....ingpowq182rjkhsf(*&^q234
Can that be translated into dumbass layman talk? :)

Would be interested in some performance mods..need to be cheap though and DIYable...

4g63 conversion :D
even in n/a form that would fly nicely, read up and see if its easy to swap im sure many others on here could tell you if its a direct swap, and if so you can get n/as for like 700 bucks complete

very clean looking car and welcome ... looking very good for its age

don't let those conversion ideas from these guys got you confuse lol

i say vr4 4g63t conversion would do just nice. more power capability

LOL - probably more power than the driver could handle, not to mention the brakses and suspension! some simple mods for performance would be much appreciated

But what do you all reckon...
what wheels can fit these things? do they share stud pattern? what is a good style/size to go for and be legal?
Anyone got a rear bumper for the 2 door?
Anyone got a lip spolier for front? or GSR front bar complete?
How do you pop the electric mirror door glass?
Anyone got a cheap stereo with aux in for sale?

I'm probably asking all this stuff in the wrong place :)

Do a bit of research yourself and check what stud pattern you have.
Then, look around for a set of wheels with the correct stud pattern and offset etc.
Style is a matter of personal choice, but ADR rules say you cant have wheels that are more that 2inches larger than your stock.
Theres millions of wheels out there.
As for the parts your after, have a look around the forum, and you'll notice a For Sale/Wanted section, why dont you make a post in there stating what you're after? im sure you'll get more help.

hey welcome.... paint it red it'll go faster...at a guess ure wheels would prob be 4* 114.3 so evo1-3,gsr, vr4 wheels may fit
Thanks tUfRiCe - how would I confirm that (remember, you'r talking to an almost complete mechanical nuff nuff here....my mech skills extend to basic servicing - only proficient at body work :) !
