I'm in need of a new clutch soon. I want to buy one and then take it to a workshop to fit it so I have minimal downtime. Anyone know who/where I can go to get one?

I currently have an Exedy 5 Puck and was impressed by how it was in my car.

Pucks are harsh on the boxes, not ideal for everyday driving

my 2 cents

that is so not true!!!

ive driven on pucks for the last 4 years and they are fine IMHO, they dont rattle and they dont bite hard.. (obviously depends on what compound is used)

ive never smashed a box.. and i leave the line at 6k most of the times!!! ive even left the line at 7000rpm!!

I had a 3-puk in my old VR4, was alot harsher to drive than a full face clutch, but when you know it has to handle 200+kw everyday, then you'll get used to it real quick.

While we're on the topic of clutches, I'm 95% sure I fried mine on the weekend too- smoking a liberty GT wagon :) better not be the gearbox

Time for a new one, i'm thinking 4 or 5-puk Exedy ceramic button

I thought 4-5 puk clutches are a bit extreme? Unless your at the drag strip all the time?

Isn't these the type of clutch where is either 'in' or 'out'?
Good for traffic?

I need something that can handle 200kw, and being a FWD, my car has tons of wheel spin which cant be good for your average clutch either.

I'd rather replace the clutch with something a little bit over rated, than under-rated, saves you from having to change clutch again in 6-months time.

The more pucks the easier it is to drive, a sprung centre makes a HUGE difference too.

I have an exedy ceramic 5 puck sprung centre, yes it is pretty 'in' or 'out' so no riding it, however in traffic I just leave a bit of a gap to the car infront.

Taking off is less smooth than with a full-face (obviously), but you just need to commit to it, rather than dithering about (if you try and slip it it'll judder like hell).

I also have a locked centre diff and a plate rear lsd - the combination makes parallel parking fun (not!)

My mates Evo4 has a solid centre 3 puck and it's much much worse to drive.....

Basically though - how keen are you?

VR-4Squid, a little off topic, I'm just curious to know how does your car cope with the centre diff being locked, are you breaking things alot?

Olly, as for the clutch, forget about the organis stuff dude! Button clutches all the way..... I was previously using a 4 puck ceramic from jstyle... and honestly it was a good clutch! Not hard to drive at all.

I've driven mattress's car which was a 3puck ceramic and that wasn't bad either... you just get used to it....

I think I do have a 5 puck ceramic clutch. Can you still get clutches jon? I still don't know where to start looking!

have a look on extremepsi... they sell the exedy 3 puk clutches quite cheap!

it is quite frustrating to drive in traffic with, but it won't slip.

i think meek sell them too but they're quite pricey!

quick question, do cc gsr's and evo 1 - 3 have different clutches?

if i recall someone was selling a heavy duty clutch that was for both gsr and evo 1 - 3?

Same. you can also use VR4 clutches too

i daily drove my 225kw evo 1 lancer with a 4 puk custom clutch... if that isnt proof enuff than i dont know what is... but anyways you have to compromise if you want power and street. once your use to a puk clutch you can shift effortlessly with no shutter at all.
