Help Support 4GTuner:

LOL sorry, that was just an advert of the cooling.. see below.. My case is a bit messier.. All the colored lines are temperature probes.

Keep buying antec, zalman, silverstone, corsair and thermalright.

At the end of the day it helps me out. I work for the australian distributor of these fine products.

LOL thanks Dre.

It has a window.. made the most of it hahaha.

My keyboard and mouse light up aswell.. Logitech G15 keyboard and Razor copperhead mouse.. :)

Ok I finally took my HDD out, swapped CD/DVD roms and pulled my RAM out- was a piece of cake! Took me longer to figure out how to open the case up!

I have ordered a 500gb internal with 32mb cache, but am stuck when it comes to getting the right kind of RAM for my motherboard. I have 2 slots.

I was looking at THESE sticks to replace the old ones- can someone tell me if they are going to be compatible with motherboard?? I'm a nooob when it comes to this kinda shit.

Also, because I don't have my old Windows XP home discs, can I use one of THESE along with my Certificate of Authenticty sticker on my machine to re-active it?

The thing is though, he might buy faster ram and it will clock down, but it won't be able to handle the tighter timings. The corsair on ebay is nice as, it will definitely work with your computer dre. However all that extra awesome will be wasted :D (like running a big 16g at 10psi).

http://tinyurl.com/55ox7p

That's what you want, pc2-4200 @ cl4 timings.

dont forget. I don't think Dre users his computer for gaming or clocking so memory timings wont make a difference.

If he uses it for surfing, email and downloading. The memory timings wont make a difference.

You want tighter timings or custom timings when you are tuning or overclocking and want the absolute best out of it to run bench marks etc on it.

Apart from that. I don't think Dre will benefit from it.. Hope i made sense.

G15 keyboard is great. G7 is a good mouse aswell. The razor has a different feel. Im still getting used to it.

No, what I mean is that if he doesn't buy ram that's rated to his motherboard, (the dell motherboard requires 533 mhz ram at CL4 timings), if he buys ram that is only rated cl5 at 533mhz then it may not handle the tighter timing.. with those kind of computers theres no way to change the clock speed, let alone the ram timings :D

I didnt think that motherboards where locked to timings... it picked up what your default timings where of your ram??

Something for me to read about, this is what happens when you do all back end server work and not desktop work :)

Laptops in particular are notorious for it, sony's back in the made in japan day required a certain kingston module.. wouldn't even post with generic RAM.

Ok well i've had enough of this poor performing spare computer that has no sound and struggles to play video, so and am in the market for a new one.

Can anyone recommend me somewhere where I can get a new computer made up?

I have 2bg DDR ram, 1x160gb SATA 2 HDD (system) 1x500gb SATA 2 HDD (storage) and a DVD-R/CD-R that are all basically brand new and need someone to throw it all together for me with Windows XP.

Can anyone recommend someone in the melbourne area who knows what they are doing, and wont rip me off??

Cheers

dre

dre i can build one up for you if you like.. just give me the specifications you want, eg. what your using it for and i can find the parts that suit your needs the best, without spending heaps amount of money on hardware you won't take advantage of

Yeah sweet, thanks olly i'll drop you a line on MSN :D

Ill check that link out aswell! thanks boys! :)

hahaha... man I have built and repaired literally about 8 computers in the last few weeks for people. Everything from a home computer to a full gaming machine :D I also upgraded mine whilst I was at it too.

I now have a Phenom quad core processor with 4 GB RAM and an ATI Radeo 4850 512Mb graphics card, and a Gigabyte S-series motherboard capable of crossfire to add a second graphics card later. The thing absolutely flies and I'm awaiting my new game 'Crysis - Warhead' to turn up in the mail any day now :D

The gaming machine I built last weekend for a guy is an Intel quad core, 4GB RAM with alloy heat fins, ATi 4870 512MB graphics card, Thermaltake case, a Gigabyte motherboard capable of crossfire and has copper cooling tubes all over the frikken thing.

I've been running Vista x64 no problems ever since! the thing flies and I can decode a movie in only 25-28 minutes! Before it took me around 1hr to 1hr 20 minutes! :D

Other machines I threw in 8800GT cards and 4GB ram etc for basic home gamers. You can pick up 2nd hand 8800GT's now for around $120-$150 that run Crysis and STALKER etc no problem.
