New lifters settling time

Maybe the dowel broke off because of something stopping the cam from spinning?

The porting of the oil filter housing is usually done to relieve oil pressure for the mains. The head has an oil distribution block which pretty much feeds oil to the lifters / rocker arms. have you pulled this off to see if anything is obstructing oil flow to your lifters?

i have a spare few bits laying around and found another exhaust cam with a crack on the dowel pin as well. lucky i have a 3rd i can use. that cam hit the pistons pretty hard apparently.

the head is all stripped and at the machine shop so it will get a hot tank and deck. he also checking to see if i bent any valves. just bloody lucky it was idling and not at full noise which is where it spends most of its life. the 3 g lifters are not going back in. cant afford a repeat. have cleaned 22 stocko lifters so if i get any that rattle i will just change them out. there was heaps of crap inside them and they are painful to clean, but i know they worked, so for sale, cheap set of 3g lifters. lol

will have to get a photo of the head. the ports in it are HUGE. compared to the little evo 1 motor i have they are massive. is this standard on VR4's or is it some black magic lol

Did you bleed the 3G lifters one at a time as you were installing them?
Mine settled down in a matter of minutes. Did you also check the lifters where the valves touched the pistons. I'd guess that by the marks on the pistons that you probably bent those at the very least.

The evo1 was the only one that went backwards in terms of the cams... I know that the cams in the E1 are definitely much milder, the ports may be a 1g/2g thing. Smaller ports but better designed flow etc in the head.

So head was apart yesterday and no bent valves. Finally some good luck. Am very surprised. Machine shop guy seams to think the pin on the cam braking was the Cause. Reasons why? Unknown. When i put the new lifters in I did bleed them down with the paper clip so they were all squishy. Found 2 on the intake side that hadn't pumped up when I tore the head down. Apart from that. NFI.
