Getting to the colder end of the year and I just found out that my heater doesn't get hot.

There has been a big string of modifications that I've done in the last 6 months that I have no idea when it stopped.

The aircon works well, gets cold just fine.

The coolant level is full and the heater hose going to the firewall is hot.

I've bypassed the FIAV
Removed all the emissions vac lines
Repaired a few broken coolant hoses.

Stuck my head in the dash on the passenger side to see if there was any plug loose or forgotten to be put back, all looks fine.

I went through the service manual and couldn't find much in the way that the heater work, plenty on the aircon in there though.

What am I missing?

The heater core could be blocked and not allowing water to flow through it.
Another thing might be that the lever that opens the flap, to allow the hot air generated from the heater core to escape into the cabin, might not be working. You will need to check that when you slide it to heat you can audibly hear a flapper door opening and closing.... unless its a motorised system of course... but see if the levers move under the dash when you turn it from cold to hot on your climate control
They are really that simple. Hot water passes through the heater core, you open a flapper door and it lets the hot air dispel into the cabin. Imagine its like a small radiator and you know how hot a radiator gets :)

The climate control is all electronic, no dials or lever controls.

I'll check the heater core, just I don't think it'll be that easy to get to in the cabin, looks like it is right in the middle console

I'll try flush the heater core, Pulling the hoses in the engine bay and running the garden hose through it and see what comes out in a bucket shouldn't be too hard.

Yeah good idea. Actually disconnect the hoses and run some compressed air through it one way, and see if it comes out the other end.
Then put the compressed air in the other way just to help dislodge anything inside that may have been caught.

when you bypassed the FIAV, did you block off the water hoses? or did you just loop one outlet to the other?

I have some heater parts if you need anything.

An alternative is to carry some hot water bottles in your car. At least 10 to keep all passengers warm...20 if you want to be luxurious.

Not sure if its any help but i also have this problem; the heater will only work if you crank the climate control all the way to 32 degrees. Even then it will only start to blow any real hot air after 10-15mins of driving at full engine temp. I've just decided to wear more clothes lol

Sit him on your lap...

A cold night is defined by how many dogs you need to keep warm. The colder the night, the more dogs needed.
Ie. Brrr, it was a three dog night last night.

I looped them, you think that is bypassing my heater?

Its possible, would also mean your heater core is slightly blocked. Just cap off both ends so it will force the water to flow through the heater core.

Have you checked the servo's that control all the flaps on the heating unit? The core might just be being bypassed with a broken servo..
