Noisy Valves (and phucked turbo)

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

You've shat the bearings in your Tcase.

I've got a broken tcase outside my shed with the -exact- same damage.

Get another tcase or rebuild yours.

I'd also probably check the tailshaft carrier bearings while I was at it, one might have let go.

I think it jumped a tooth because its so powerfull (stock 4G61t)

The timming belt tensioner was a bit worn so the next time he put the belt on we turned the motor 4 or five times by hand instead of once, its done the job

I wouldnt let any other mechanic touch my car

Hooray i wa shoping thats "all" it was. Did i do something wrong? Apart from the obvious of not changing oil soon as i got the car?
Like was it an oil prob or just wear and tear?
I have it booked in for service to fix turbo and transfercase. Does the transfercase share the same oil as the gearbox? And any ideas how much its gonna cost me for a rebuild?

I don't think you did anything wrong... except maybe too many hard launches.

Mine was fine till I got the new clutch, then it started take more of a pounding. I switched it into FWD for a while (like a week), when I switched it back into AWD It let go about 3-4 days later.

More than likely just wear and tear.

Same oil. I think you can put LSD oil into it if you want, but I use standard gearbox oil.

No idea on rebuild costs.

how do you switch it to fwd?
i had a look but couldnt see any switch. How do i tell if it is a switchable box?

87 model vr4's have switchable gearbox/transfer.

Yours most likely doesn't have either. I don't know of another one with switchable box/transfer? Anyone else got one?

i think a few others have them..

most of them are stuffed though

another way to switch it to fwd is to lock the centre diff by either welding the centre diff or getting a viscous coupling eliminator...

lol i just want to lock it so i could drive to the mechanics rather then organise a tow truck :S
i am very lazy

I now know whats wrong with my poor car :'(
1. The turbo had siezed yet somthing was spinning so that it was shoooting bits of metal into the engine :S
2. The right angle drive collapsed (does that mean anything to anyone?)

So both need to be replaced however the guys at reliance say there are 2 types of VR4 Pre-Evo and Evo, the called mitsu and gave the, my chassis No. So mitsu could get back to them. As i have to replace my turbo what is a good bolt on replacement?

E316g for the turbo or just a big 16g...

Right angle drive is your transfer case. I told you you'd broken it already.

Transfer cases come in two varieties... vr4 switchable (like mine) and non-switchable (like yours). Either is good they both bolt up exactly the same.

Dood reckoned $2100 For a new turbo for my car??
I thought i saw massive over the top turbos for like $1600??
But im now getting a second hand one with warranty for $480, how does that rate?
This is why i prefer to do everything myself :S I have no idea whats happening :S:S
