Its a great feeling, anxiety and sleepless nights leading up to it... been there myself
Except mine was a 9 year off-the-road project lol.
It comes down to whether you feel that you got your money's worth for the time it spent in the shop. Shops can be really frustrating when you get treated like just another number or a means to draw in customers.
I had my car sitting in one shop for 3 months with nothing done to it except a couple of intercooler brackets welded on which a first year apprentice could have done blindfolded. I wasnt charged a cent for it as it was a waste of time. The shop owner was quite embarassed really. They just used it in the shop to market to other people the type of work they do... when in fact I did most of the work on the car myself. It also didnt help that the shop was broken into and my car got damaged
. Cost for fuk all work = zero $$ but 3 months downtime.
Then straight from there I took it to another shop where it sat for 9 months with nothing else done other than redo the intercooler mounts, mount the intercooler and make up new intercooler piping. Oh, and also mount my oil cooler only (not the plumbing). I took it out of that shop too. Cost $1200 worth of work in 9 months!!
I lost 12 months at two fukwit shops who promised the world but didnt deliver (If only I could TIG weld). But now I have Frankie do all my welding and it gets done in a weekend or two
I never have to go to another shop for work again, except a tuner's. The rest I do myself (if I can) and that way I know that it's done properly
The old saying 'When you find a good shop/mechanic stick with them" is 100% absolutely positively tell it like it is brother, halleloujah, the truth be to God! Amen.
