Do any of you guys notice a significant drop in the amount of oil in your engines?

Mine was serviced 2500 k's ago but i checked it yesterday and it was just above the low mark   and i have no leaks

Might be internal leak.

Check the condition of your spark plugs, if it looks oily then your engine might be getting on abit.

I only changed the plugs a while back, they were blackish in colour, i'll load up some pics of them because im no expert lol.

I have noticed a tiny bit of seapage out of a couple of the screws above where the leads go into the head, but that is in no way going to cause soo much oil loss.

These are the old plugs, one thing i noticed was that they were gapped incorrectly to 1.1mm instead of .8.

Phone pics 8)

burning oil, mine does it, probly most do, just cause you havent got a huge cloud of blue smoke following you doesnt mean isnt using a bit.

yeah suppose so because i can't see any smoke, seems to run pretty smooth either way.

So what do the colour of plugs say, if anything?

Theres a few thing you can check:

1. mileage of the engine
2. grade / viscocity of oil you are using.
3. engine breathers.
4. cylinders compresion check.
5. turbo (not easy to check)

Yeah I'd do a compression check to be safe.

Could be Piston rings or something to do with your Turbo possibly?

No. All engines consume a small amount of oil, but to loose
that much in 2500 km isn't good.

Oh, and did you remember to check the oil level
with the engine warm (as specified in the owners manual)
but not running (obviously  )

my $0.02

install a nice big shiney bling blingin (one that will work properly) catch can setup and see how much oil is actually caught... as you are not seeing any noticable smoke then your turbo seals and rings cant be 'too bad.' with an engine of this age one would expect a bit of blowby... if you start catching a little bit of oil you will know the cause of the oil consumption and you will also increase powers at the same time

but as previously mentioned ensure that the correct oil/weight is being used and that you checked the oil when the engine was warm.

was running motul 4100 turbo lite, but i changed to castrol edge fully syn 5w30 (anybody used this?) yesterday. I noticed a very minor leak at the sump plug before changing but stupid me didnt change the plug so now its leaking even more. Going to do the plug switcheroo this arvo and Hopefully it was the sump plug leak causing the loss :D

5w30 would definately be too thin. It would be sneaking through the turbo seals and everything. Do an oil change, go to Castrol Magnatec or something similar.
Run on that for a bit, if its still the same, then take off the intake pipe of the turbo, check for oil.

OK changed back to motul turbolite, no sump leaks anymore, now i just wait and see if it drops again.

I should also say thanks to Clutz the proma works dam well from what iv'e seen, and i only added it on the first lot of oil, and its still a crap load quiter than before!

Don't use additives in your engine oil think about it. Think about the millions spent in creating these oils. Then your adding a generic additive into another oil, thinning it out. Just get the 2g lifters.
