What oil cooler is everyone running on their cars?

I need to upgrade from the EVO II model.

Did it just bolt on or were updates required?

im looking at doing this too, but have told that the stock one is good enough. sorry to hijack your thread but i have seen meek sell oil thermos as well.

would this be sufficient? or would you just get an oil cooler.

maybe get a custom one from earls? i think it is...

I have been told today for track use I need a bigger oil cooler.

Not sure about the oil thermo?

I had a look into this a while ago.

Basically cheapest quality upgrade would be to get a PWR cooler with proflow/speedflow fittings.

Here's the component list of everything you need:

Proflow Fittings

M16x1.5 to -10AN adaptor x2. p/n: PFE733-10 $12.49 each
Crush washer to suit the above adaptor x4. p/n:? $?
-10AN Straight hose end x2. p/n: PFE401-10 $15.49
-10AN 90degree hose end x2. p/n: PFE403-10 $??
-10AN hose 400series x1m. p/n: PFE400-10 $27.99

PWR External plate high fin oil cooler 280x200x37 -10AN 15row. p/n: PWO2234 $??
OR
PWR ext. plate close mesh oil cooler 280x194x37 -10AN 21row. p/n: PWO5931 $??
(I don't know which one is the better choice, theyre both similar in performance)

All the prices are RRP and are about 6months old. When I calculated the prices it ended up around $300.

If you're going all Earl's you'd be looking at double that due to the brand.

thats not too bad considering the oil thermo is already about 150. where do you get these pwr ones from alex?

ring auto cooling in clayton in you can get one that is easily as good for alot less

and it will take full blown rock hits etc with out any protection.

have a look in my thread as I have one for p/s and engine

Pete, Repco stock Proflow fittings.
Or alternatively you can go speedflow from dandenong (part #s are the same, just without the 'PFE')

I got a 19row Serc oil cooler from Revolution Racegear. Was $300. Has male -10 fittings and then I just used ProFlow -10 right angles off the cooler to join up the hose to -10 straights with the thread adaptor fittings.

Didn't use any of these: "Crush washer to suit the above adaptor x4. p/n:? $?" The tapered ends and O-rings on the fittings should ensure they don't leak.

I had some aluminium brackets made up to bolt the oil cooler to the rad support. They pick up the existing mounting points on the oil cooler. DO NOT weld fittings or brackets to your oil cooler!!!!

I paid mid $1000s for mine, what temps are you seeing shayne?
the max I ever saw on mine was 105 on track, dyno, anywhere.

I run speedflow fittings on mine.

Upgrading to a bigger oil cooler could mean upgrading fittings and oil lines as well. Most aftermarket coolers run -10AN size fittings so chances are you're going to have to change your oil cooler, hoses and banjo fitting on the oil filter housing. Check out this thread for some ideas :) http://4gtuner.com/site/showthread.php?t=9093&highlight=dowty&page=2

Shayne, I originally had rubber O-rings on mine where the -10AN fittings went into the oil filter housing but they squashed out and deformed when I tightened the -AN fittings in :( I ended up using Dowty seals instead of crush washers and O-rings on those 2 fittings instead. They sealed a treat :)

I don't know what temps my oil's getting to on the track.

My temp gauge hasn't moved during any of the sessions I've done. This Australia Day will be a test for it though - with 38deg at Winton on the cards!!

I use a B&M oil cooler. $140 got mine for.

The black looking ones with the criss/cross patter.
Have a look on my members rides thread.
The same design is also on my PS cooler but smaller.

If I want -10 fittings will I require a sandwich plate on the EVO II 4g63 or can you increase the size on the current filter housing?

Also can someone point in the direction if the sandwich plate is required a reliable brand and also a oil filter relocation kit.

Did you get the kit complete?

Did it allow for remote fitment of the oil filter as well?

So many different options.

a filter relocation kit os not required its personal preferance really.

you dont need a sandwich plate just run it out of where the standard one comes from, you can buy the adaptors to suit -10 fittings:thumbsup:

Yes the kit came complete. Sandwich plate, lines(no way near long enough) threaded adaptor fittings and filter adaptor.... (MINUS the oil cooler)
So basically it was an oil filter relocator kit, and I added extra hose to incorporate the oil cooler.

SO the flow chart is: Sandwich Plate> Hose> Filter block> Hose> Oil Cooler> Hose> Sandwich Plate.

with hypos being an evo it doesn't require the same type of kit as he already has the cooler from the factory---maybe twin coolers?
