Hypo said:I have been told today for track use I need a bigger oil cooler.
Not sure about the oil thermo?

I love people making their own heat sheilds and shit with Stainless and/or ALLOY sheet:thumbsup:
Paint it black though
Liberoz said:Last time I looked it was alloy sheet when you make your own you can paint it any colour you like ey:lol:
Hypo said:Mine needs replacing as I am rebuilding the engine.
I don't necessarily need a bigger unit, I was going to upgrade if the price difference was minimal compared to replacing the standard unit.
I appreciate everyone's help and opinions with this. I only want to do it once.
rob323 said:What were your oil temps like on the track Hypo? I never saw over 120 degrees C in my vr4 and that was with the stock jap spec oil cooler set up which definately could have benefitted from some "Liberoz" ducting.
rob323 said:I reckon you are worrying about nothing. Consider the purpose your car was built for - rallying - a mix of fast and slow speed with the car often sideways and therefore less than ideal airflow through the front of the car. Now consider how easy a time you are giving it on the track as it is getting by fast flowing and usually ideal airflow through the coolers.
Monitor temps first, worry later if it ever becomes a problem.
rob323 said:Just run petrol through it. Or is it full of caramel due to a blown head gasket?
rob323 said:90 degrees is normal for street driving.
p3akin said:just to bump up this thread, am now looking to get an oil cooler for my car before track which is june 14th.
current temp is about the 90 mark and that is just normal street driving..
can you guys post up any pics you have of your aftermarket oil coolers?
Cheers Peter
