Oil Pressure Readings

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

Updated the thread today after an oil change to Penrite HPR 10W-50.
Note: Penrite oil ran higher temps than Castrol oil but note ambient temp today was 28'C and my new front bar half covers the oil cooler now.

Those restrictors can be purchased anywhere that sell turbo products. Do a quick Google search or EBay search on 'turbo oil restrictor' and you'll find several suppliers.
If you're getting your oil feed from the head to your BB turbo then you need to install one.

Are you guys going to share what oil pressures you're getting in your setups or what? :p

Just re-reading this thread and have quoted this to raise a question as I prepare for my turbo change:

When using a Garrett BB turbo, are you guys taking your oil feed from the stock outlet on the cylinder head or are you picking up one of the ports in the oil filter housing? I know I need to put a restrictor in the oil feed line regardless of where I pick the oil feed up from, but is it absolutely necessary to use a Kiggly restrictor in the head too or can I maintain the factory EVO one if I choose to use the factory oil feed outlet in the head?

the kiggly only restricts oil to the hla's so yes you still should use a restrictor in the oil line for a bb chra

IMO the oil feed for a Garrett BB turbo should come from the OEM position on the head. BB turbos dont need much oil or pressure for lubrication. Too much pressure or running a line from the oil filter housing without a restrictor to a BB GT turbo will stuff up the turbo's oil seals and can effect spool time somewhat.
You can get a -4an braided turbo oil feed line (with banjo and bolt on one end to bolt to the head and a female connection on the other end) for under $50 delivered these days. You'll probably have to buy a restrictor seperately unless you can get one in a kit. The restrictor screws into the centre cartridge of your BB GT first then the female connection from the oil line screws into the back of the restrictor.
You could also buy an inline oil filter if you wanted, but Im a bit wary of choking up the oil feed to the turbo over time as you wouldnt know if the filter is restricted/clogged or not with crud until maybe its too late.
Oh, and check the length that you will need as sometimes your aftermarket or custom turbo exhaust manifold may make the turbo sit further away and requires a longer line.
Here's a quick mock up for you.
