Hi,

I'm trying to rectify a few issue with my RVR, hope you guys can help out.

Theres a few issue with the car at the moment,
- oil leaks (not sure is it coming from just the rocker cover?)
- coolant hoses needs to be replace,
- clutchs/gearbox is kinda rooted unsure is this causes by double clutch? but still drives well.

So far I've taken off the rocker cover, and removed the old rocker gasket as I can tell its in bad shape, and condition. Any idea where can I grab hold of the rocker head gasket kit? I've been trying to hunt down in a few places in Perth, they either dont stock them or unsure would the gasket from evo4 and up will fit into the RVR, and Ive got told im expecting around 75 - 150 for the rocker cover gasket... I had a look on the net, http://www.store.partsdinosaur.com/page19.html too bad they dont ship internationally  Should I just buy the rocker cover gasket or a complete gasket kits, bottom, and up?

For the coolant hoses top and bottom has sign of corrosion on the ends, I also had a look around few places they dont have them. It would be good if you can let me know where can buy them locally or online.

My last resort is could be going to the mitsubishi dealer

2l dohc galant or sonata rocker cover gasket is same as rvr.

for the hoses, just take off yours and take it to shop. I'm sure they'll find one similar to it. I got my top radiator hose replaced and I think nissan patrol's one was closest match. :)

Hey mate - another RVR owner in perth.

Coolant hoses can be bought from any where that will source from the Mackay Rubber group - look at the catalogue and you will see the listing. For the smaller hoses we took mine down to repco/super cheap/auto pro and found 2 generics that matched up and then used straight sections with bending covers to construct the rest and make them easy to replace should the need arise in the future.

Rocker cover has been noted but also look at Meek in sydney who can often get the bits here faster than local guys can.

Thanks for the info Dr RVR. I've removed all the coolant hoses today, and the thermostat housing. Manage to salve the top and bottom cooland hoses, and it appears the thermostat housing has alot of buildup of corrosion inside and outsite. Whats the best way to clean them off?

Wae

Mate for the cost of it put new hoses on there - cheap insurance as you do not know when they were replaced .

Corrosion removal - I just use a screwdriver/hardplastic/chisel/knife to scrape it off, someone here may have a more technical approach but slow and steady works and does not cause damage to the parts - for corrosion protection use the factory coolant - have had good results with it in the WA summer temps and zero corrosion inside engine when I pulled the head earlier this year.

Also do not forget to look at the coolant feed lines to your turbo and asses the condition

Rocket cover gasket would be,ok,but, rest of them not fit or not good quality at all.

Almost 100% sure the vr4 are the same for the gasket in question they have some differences (mounts, bolts on crank, port sizes) but the engine in the RVR is basically a EVO 3 just smaller turbo and some other tweaks
if you are doing the gasket i would get one of these http://www.meek.com.au/index.php?_a=product&product_id=216 instead of the plastic one :p I was running 18psi on my old build and kept leaking from the half moon until i got the alloy one. also check that the breather pipe is not blocked

Just incase you guys didn't know i thought I should point out that you have to put gasket sealant on the half moon plug and also on the corners of the rocker cover gasket where they rise at the cams.

Cheers.
