Hi Guys

My gsr overheated this morning - let me go into detail

i have a vr4 2L engine rebuilt 4 years ago.
I had a metal headgasket and had a new thermostat put on

Radiator is a genuine unit about 2-3 years old, about a 1 year old 1.1 ralliart radiator cap
and both fans work fine

Was driving for bout half hour in traffic, gauge on halfway as usual

Then my gauge started getting higher and higher so i pulled over and turned the car off just before it hit full HOT.
looked underneath and no leaks so i was baffled.

and then because it was so hot, it started to overflow water out the overflow bottle (which ive seen other cars do when they overheat)

it wasnt even that hot this morning, like 20ish degrees?

what could be causing the overheating? i wasnt even giving the car a hard time?!

sounds like you got a block in your radiator.
did the overfill bottle start rattling?
get your radiator checked out, otherwise your gonna blow a headgasket like me :S

agreed check the colour of the oil and the condition of the plugs if either show signs of water could be a headgasket problem

and yer agreed a blocked radiator or a block coolant gallery could also casue over heating

could also be a possibility that teh coolant temp gauge sensor has had better days if it wasnt really overheating like the gauge was saying

if the radiator cap had better days it would be letting water go everywhere

or it wouldnt be letting water get back in or out

possibly, but it also could be letting the water out like it should when it warms and then not letting it draw back in to the radiator when required causing the water level to drop and the water temp to rise after a period of time.
