old owner of my gsr painted some of the interior parts white..
ive bought black interior paint.. but how do i strip the white off..? what should i use??

also rocker covers.. my paint isnt in the best condition.. i want to respray it.. what paint do i use? and how would i keep the mitsubishi writing etc on..?

and finally.. windscreen wipers.. he painted them white as well.. what type of black paint should i use so that it wont fade in the rain..

thanks

im not too sure about the interior bits, but maybe you could use some paint stripper that is friendly on plastic.

as for the rocker cover, get some high temp paint and spray it (make sure you degrease it first) and once the paint is dry, sand/grind the lettering.

for the windscreen wipers... maybe get them painted a gloss black and then clear coat them? i'm not sure if that'd stop them from fading altogether though

When painting anything aluminium eg rocker cover make sure you etch prime it first as with the heavy oxide layer aluminium has, the paint will simply rub off.

I painted my window wipers black once, well sprayed with a can of black gloss from autobarn. It looked v.nice but faded over time, i think lasted 6 or so months, then when i got the car fixed at panel beaters, i got him to respray the wipers, v.nice now :)

The can didnt last, i might have needed to spray something else over it (protectant) though?

yeah paint stripper will melt the plastic.
you can try an acrylic stripper but that might damage it as well.
you are better off just finding some second hand parts.

Maybe just paint over the white with a few coats of black?? might be the best way, Just make sure you use some wax/grease remover to clean it first or the paint wont stick.
Does your GSR have a 4G63 2 litre engine? as the 4G93 that is standard in a GSR has no paint on the rockercover!!
and for the wipers my mate has been telling me about this clear coat spray paint from Bunnings maybe a few coats of that will protect the black.
Good luck with it all.

what parts are painted? if they are smooth then just sand them or if they are the textured parts and u don't mind them being a bit smoother sand them.
i say this as you probably don't know how they were prepared, if they weren't flexi primed then there is no telling how long the paint will last.
but as stated, definatley DON'T use paint stripper.
if you are painting the guage cluster surround you will probably have trouble with the paint reacting and fish eyeing. i don't know why but i have done 2 of them and both the same even with the plastic primer. you would need to build up the paint in a heap of really light coats till it is fully covered then do your topcoat. DON'T get impatient, let them dry 1st.
i have used motospray flexi prime and KnH gloss white on mine, then rubbed with 1500, 2000 and polished. it's like a mirror. well worth it.
but as for the textured parts the motospray plastic and vinyl spray is the way to go. no primer needed.

its a j spec gsr.. still has the 4g93.. as far as i know anyway..
perhaps the previous owner liked red so much he painted it red.. coz the paint is coming off..
thats the rocker cover im talking about

as for the interior parts.. ive bought parts off an evo 1 rs.. beverything went in fine.. just the centre where the gear knob and handbrake is.. the rs doesnt have the side compartment box with a cover.. it just has a pocket kind of thing with no cover.. thats why i decided to use the stock gsr one with the compartment box.. so now i need to paint it.. coz its white

its texturised and i kinda want to keep the texturised look as the rest of the car is like that.. ive tried painting one layer black.. i guess just being patient and doing coat after coat will have to do for now.. until someone has one for sale..
