Looking at getting a pajero io.

Looking at options for engine swap but seems rather small as to wide bellhousing. Looking at the 1.8l model

If you wanted to go twin cam 1.8 would the only option be to rebuild the bottom end and do the twin cam head on this block?

Really don't want to play with the 1.8 sohc

Cheers

So its a narrow block? Go any of the engines in the cc lancers.
wideblock, go the engines in the ce and later engines.

K said the g93 single cam is missing a boss on the front of the block to mount a tensioner for the twincam. So that option maybe not a good one

Nope jack ive since further examined the blocks all the fwd 1.8l are identical and work in either dohc or sohc cant say much for those equiped to run in a north siuth orientation

Yeah checked out that thread.

I'm guessing because of the wide block it's the reason why there isn't any 63t of them running around

does the l300 use a wideblock? they run a 2l engine possibly a 4g63 wideblock then pending other factors like head bolt size and water jackets could possibly go evo or vr4 or rvr head on that and do the turbo that way. but it's looking like no matter which way you go. theres going to be some custom work. or at the very least a head swap.

From the other thread k. No 4g6x engines will bolt to the 4g9x io pattern. Maybe some other 4g9x will.
the io doesnt have a wideblock pattern, its something else again.
you sure the 4g6x bolts to the io gearbox because if it does so will any fwd 4g9 block as the bolt spacings are the same. you can bolt a 4g6x to a w5m and f5m trans no problems the only thing that would have me concerned is if the N/s pajero io engine config has different castings for engine mounts at the botom. the e/w motors only have the upper timing belt mount to the chasis the rest of the mounts for these are on the gearbox. vr4 4g63's have them on the block if i'm not mistaken while evo also has gearbox placed engine mounts.

if you have a head gasket for you motor handy i can compare it to a fwd 4g9 to see if a e/w head will go on the n/s motor (you may have clearence issues with the cas on the firewall an would need to alter the loom to reach properly. if you can get me the bolt spacing on the gearbox i might be able to check some 4g6 blocks at my local mitsi wrecker or even grab the gearbox code and we can look to see if any vehicles came with 4g6 blocks and that gearbox

Hi guys, the io is amazing off road, 4cm lift and decent tyres and we have amazed guys with extensively modded GU, Landcruisers and the like. Having low range and the super select system its a very different beast to theAirtek. I've aquired one with a broken block with the plan to put a triton/express or even Starion engine in it. 18 months later and brain damage from trying to find out what will fit (and 4 other Mitsi's to keep me busy),
The car is for sale if anybody's interested?.......(located 14km NW of Melb), thanks.
