Well things arent going that well for me in the electrical department at the moment- i've spent about 5 hours trying to get my Palm M515 that I use to datalog with to sync with my computer, so I can upload the MMCD software again after a hard reset.

Sure enough after all this time its still not working after i've tried EVERYTHING, and visited dozens of websites to try and troubleshoot- so i'm almost about ready to give up.

What i'm asking is if anyone has a Palm M500, M505 or M515 anywhere in australia, could I send you my palm so that you can try sync it with your computer and upload MMCD on to it for me?

Thanks in advance

dre

I've got one dre

I usually just chuck the MMCD software onto like an 8mb SD card and run it off that

you should be able to grab a tiny sd card off ebay for like $5

OK boys, I gotta learn how to use this MMCD. Can someone direct me to a site or info on where to get it and tips on how to start using it? cheers

UPDATE:

I got the Palm M505 today, downloaded the latest PalmOne software for windows and the thing is synchronising with all the right animations and sounds between the PC and holder so all is good (and guess what, I'm running Vista 32bit on the PC and it works!!) :D I've synched over games, the backlight fix, filemanager updates etc all is fine via the usb and station file transfer method.

But, it wont transfer the MMCD program over for some reason (it comes up with yellow error tags). Plus my memory card is 500MB and looks like the PALM wont read it as it wont read any compatible files I've put on it - dayam.. time to look for a whopping 8MB SD card on EBay hahahaha  OR, is there a certain way to transfer MMCD over to the PALM via the sync or is it a memcard thing only?

cheers, Rob

Rob

You should be able to send it over manually during hotsync- tharaka only used a SD card because my palm wouldn't sync with my computer!

I think the old Palm wont handle the 500MB SD Card. When I go to Card Info section it says its found the card, SD512 Sandisk and has 400MB+ of memory free but just wont read anything on the card unfortunately. Maybe I just have to grab an 8MB one from somewhere to try, it would cost stuff all nowadays. I tried this: http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/file_manager_update.html but it didnt work unfortunately  as it still doesnt recognise it has any info on the card even after I formatted it.

I'll PM Tharaka to this thread, I was just wondering that when it goes onto the Memcard, does the actual install program go over that you download from the MMCD website, then install it via the PALM, or do you install MMCD onto the memory card so all files are already unpacked?

cheers guys, I'm nearly there.

To be honest, when i first connceted it up, i never had problems syncing

but then after a month or so
it stopped working

so i just put it on a spare SD card and then copied it to the palm
its much easier than syncing stuff, and you dont need to install the useless palm software

I looked at the PALM help forum and they reckon 1GB cards are the limit, so maybe its something else. Seems like the palm doesnt recognise what file format the exe is?

Everything looks like it works fine as per normal. Its interface shows it all works and makes sounds when hotsyncing. The Palm update programs you can download from the net go through and install no problem. I got the games and filemanager and backlight fix from the palm website and saved them to computer, then hotsynced without a hitch. It's like it doesnt recognise MMCD to allow it to install into the PALM?

When you download MMCD its in a zip format. When you unpack it, its an exe file. I've tried syncing that over but it doesnt work. So then I ran the exe and it made a folder called MMCD on the PC. I tried syncing the contents of that over but nothing... I just ried again and it errors and logs the following:

"HotSync operation started 09/13/07 22:55:49
ERROR: The following file(s) could not be installed to the SecureDigital (SD) Card because there is no application on your handheld to open these files.
If you have recently installed such an application, please run that application and then perform a HotSync operation."

But, I cant get that bitch on the PALM to start with

Thanks for that last comment Tharaka, it was what I needed to know    I downloaded the MMCD tools from the MMCD website, didnt see the extra link above it for the Source file  Just downloaded it, it synced over no problem and its finally in the PALM and works woohoo!! Is that all it is, a tiny file? Do you need the MMCDTools?

mmcdtools just converts the log files to excel files or something like that

i cant remember what it does

but if you have a read of the homepage, it should outline it

Thanks guys, I appreciate you having the patience in helping me with sorting the problem out. It's sitting there now with 'FIRST RUN' on screen and ready to go - I'm ready for Dre's datalogging cable now :D
