Hey guys,

I'm just trying to build up a list of parts I will need to start collecting for an engine rebuild...

What exactly do I need to purchase?

Pistons/Rings
Rods
Bearings?
Head gasket

What else?

Thanks :)

Mat

4g64 crank :D

Er, ARP head studs/rod bolts (it's in pieces already :D), new timing belt, timing belt tensioner thing, balance shaft belt / removal kit, sealant for the sump, new head/rocker cover gasket.. er that's all I can think of but I'm certain theres more.

Oh, tools to do it all haha...

^yep, arp studs

cams
springs
retainers

VRS kit - all seals and gaskets

should probably do the timing belt, waterpump + oil pump?

There are some dirt cheap combo's on ebay.....

whats wrong with your engine matt? If it aint broke, why fix it!! :D

Yeah ARP mains and head studs. Oil pump, water pump, timing belt kit (gates or better), assorted gaskets for rear main carrier, oil pump housing, return pipe gaskets, exhaust mani, inlet mani, turbo gaskets, TORQUE WRENCH

I've literally just been through this and decided to replace EVERYTHING so I don't have to rip anything down again to replace it. There is always stuff that you will forget to buy so have like $300 waiting for odds and ends.

Thanks guys,

I'm not going to be doing it myself, I don't have the time, patience or know-how :p

I just want to buy the main parts myself so I know exactly what's going into it is quality stuff.

Jonson and Tharaka, how much have you guys spent (if you don't mind me asking) on parts and labour?

damn, how'd you get away with 6k for a forged rebuild? I got new cooler, piping, clutch, forged internals, cams/cam gears, injectors etc and spent a fair bit more than 6k.

Well I have spent $0 on labour :D About the only benefit of being a mechanic.
I think I have roughly spent around 6k. Thats including Wiesco pistons, Eagle rods, Kings bearings, genuine MLS head gasket, Welsch plugs, ARP mains and head studs, stainless exhaust studs and dress up bolts, machining/cleaning/balancing of entire block, Flywheel lightened and balanced, valve stem seals, Wolf 3Dv4 w/controller, New belts, oil pump, water pump, tensioner, all new gaskets, injectors, Walbro, New 16g Turbo, GT pumps mani, braided line, clutch and obviously some other bits and pieces I have forgotten. EDIT: remembered I had Crank re ground, pressure tested head and re core of radiator, Stainless intake setup.

I've got everything at trade price or below, Dismantled and cleaned, reassembled everything on my own. Granted its taken A LOT longer than if a workshop did it. But for the price I've paid I think I've done pretty well.

mine was 7500 for parts and labour

Dont forget the water pump!!! If you know where to go you could do the long motor for under $4000. I pre-disassemble blocks and take them to an engineering firm to have them dipped, bored and honed, new forged rods and pistons balanced, crank polished, complete rotating assembly balanced, head pressure tested; you name it. Then buy all the new parts like gaskets/belts/bearings etc from places like Meek Automotive or wherever. Then I prepare all that I need and assemble it myself :)

6k would include labour.. tho i might get cheaper rates who knows..

Machining:

- Acid Dip Block $50
- Recondition Head (new seats etc) $500
- Bore and Hone block (torque plated) $300
- Grind crank + Balance $300

Total $1150

Assemble long motor $800

Bottom end:

JE Pistons $700
Scat Rods $500 (Eagles $700)
Bearings (all) $300

Total: $1500 ($1700)

Head:

Cometic Head Gasket $150
ARP Head Stud Kit $280
Performance Springs Valve Springs $180
HKS 264/264 Camshafts $900

Total: $1510

Gaskets/Misc Parts:

VRS Kit $150
Water pump $80
Gates timing belt $250
Balance Shaft removal kit $80
Alternator Belt/Power Steering belt etc. $100

Total: $660

Grand Total $5620

Optional Parts

- Clutch - 4 puk racing custom clutch $550
- Removal and Refit (workshop charge) $1000

As you can see ive done it many times before lol!!!
Oh and as long as you run stock turbo and stock boost the motor is under warrantee cos they are affiliated with VACC so they have to offer 12 months warranty cos the parts are new.. this is from the engine machinests themselves.. not a performance workshop.. all they do is work on engines all day.

I reckon I'm gonna get bigger cams, spings, retainers and adj gears soon. Probably a bigger turbo too. The b16g looks pretty tiny on the engine.
