Hi all, It's been a while since Ive posted on here or anywhere really. As the title reads, I have found an rvr, I wasn't really looking but saw one sitting in someones driveway parked in the same position for a looong time and thought to myself that i might be able to offer a price for it provided nothing was wrong with drivetrain.

As it turns out it is a non turbo 5spd with MASSIVE gudgeon pin noise, so no motor which was perfect for me as I still have my evo 3 evo 1? (g6k 2 on head) engine waiting in my shed ready to build (eagle rods, cp pistons, arp bolts)
The clutch is also stuffed, but owner is supplying entire clutch kit, from firewall down to plate.
The atmo head was rebuilt 3000k ago so should be good for some parts if nothing else.
I had plans to put a 4g63t into a lancer wagon, but thought this will be an easier conversion plus the added bonus of awd.
Paint is a bit sad, but I'm a house painter by trade and have sprayed most of my life (20 yrs) and have some experience with clear over base 2 packs and acrylics, so I figure if it stands still long enough, I can paint it.
Interior is what you would expect when you let the Sun and some small monkeys have their run of the rear of the car, so a clean up and respray of the plastics is in order.
Should be fun, I will keep you all posted.

Regards, B.

Indeed Shame it wasn't a turbo need a engineers for a legit rego...... but very interested to see what you come up with i am going to be running a built 4g63T with upgraded turbo manifolds and all sorts of supporting mods, What is your timeline for your build ?
Any chance of having 2 RVR's at the 2013 Jamboree ??

I think I have the engineer thing sorted, mate of a mate kinda deal, I don't imagine there would be too much to do to get it engineered, but I have been wrong before.
I'm yet to lego the motor fully, wondering if I need to O ring the block. Started porting this week too, and it needed new guides and a seat resurface, time wise I'm not sure. Also still wondering about turbo size and trim etc.
When is the Jambo? 2 RVRs would be cool

I have heard several opinions on O ringing the block and it leads me to believe that unless you are shooting for 30psi+ it ain't worth it and apparently it could lead to weakened cylinder walls(just around the top) or impact on water/oil galleries..
Know a fair few people making 250 - 350 kw and no O rings in sight :)

Jambo is on April 6th in Sydney

I made the mistake of picking up a copper gasket (acl race series) for $90, and after some research found soooo many people have had leaking issues unless it goes on an o ringed block.
You are right on the money with o ringing for 30+ psi, and if my cylinder walls end up being weakened I think it's a no brainer! I will return it and grab an MLS, at least I will be in familiar territory
and anyway, o ringing costs over $400 for someone to do it, you can buy a few mls gaskets for that!

I won't make this years Jambo :( I have so much to research and do before I can get this machine on the road, but when I do........... :w00t:

so a clean up and respray of the plastics is in order.

As a "friend"of my daughters has badly scratched the inside of my RVR (not happy Jan!) this is the bit I am interested in
How does one go about cleaning up deep scratches and rubbing that has damaged the texturing?
My local panel beaters don't seem to know !

Hmmmm, all i do is give it a bit of heat from a heat gun then try to smooth it a bit - all of it to get a uniform apperance then paint.
Don't take my ideas on too much though as asthetics comes last in my builds
Replicating factory apperance is the domain of the pros, it can be done, you would be shocked to see how many cars came through the used lot with very second rate plastics, half an hour later, perfect.
The pros use heat and then a textured template to re-texture the surface.

I have done some looking around the rvr (finally had the time) I was told it was imported by a guy who had an import business and he bought it for his wife, which might be true but a seller can tell you anything right lol
Anyhoo, the rear diff has 3.909 on it which I thought was odd as for all the searching (yes, I have used the search function, it doesn't like rvr though lol) I beleive 3.909 is an evo ratio.
Can anyone shed some light on this? It comes across as a bit odd the an atmo rvr should be sporting the same ratio as an evo. Hmmm.
