get a blitz panel air filter for the air box

i got mine from here

http://perfectrun.com.au/performance%20parts/air%20cleaner/air%20cleaner/blitzairfilsuspower.htm

ended up being around $60ish shipped to my door

I bought one of these and fitted it on the weekend! Haven't had time to test it out very well though.

BTW when i took off my POD my AFM had a few bent honeycomb bits, see below. Is it alrite to run it like this?

I've just recently put a massive k 'n' n pod on my car (EVO bonnet so vent for cold air right there) and I have found my fuel economy has gone heaps better, pod for the win!

The problem I've got is the little plastic air divider thing that screws on to the AFM. Car runs like shit without it. Turbo light comes on, black smoke, misfire in the upper rev range. I need something that fits over the plastic doover and also leaves space for a filter...

Dont try and reinvent the wheel removing factory items for aftermarket junk so the junk fits. ;)

Ive almost finished my Cold air box for my Apexi Pod filter here's a pic.
As you can see in the pic (in Blue) I've still got some shaping to do not 100% happy with the keyline profile around strut tower, also yet to mark and drill the hole for the strut bracket pick up 10mm bolt on the lid.

By the way I've run HKS, K&N, Simota, Apexi pod filters & some no name eBay junk pod I was given and I've never had any issues with engine running rough or otherwise, about the only thing is different levels of intake sound through them all. Also the HKS and the eBay foam style always seems to make her run rich.(as they do increase air flow above the rest) But definitely don't filter as well.

While that box looks good and everything, in my opinion it will provide no benefit over the stock box unless it has a feed to the front bumper. In which case you could also do that with the stock box. Also the stock box is plastic which means it will conduct less heat than a metal one.

When I'd expect that comment as you cannot see the factory air intake feeding it nice fresh cold air, BTW have you ever tried to run a pod filter inside a stock plastic air box Hahahahahaa

I've designed this one to be fed by the factory oem air snorkle. Ive also data logged this Vs factory box, My box has 0.9 of a degree lower than stock box with the added benifit of more air flow through a pod than the panel.

I'd definately stick to my minds frame set :D and You can definately stick to yours ;)

Have you still got the fuse box in there?
Also don't you have a Evo bonnet? Needs a hole in the top of your box to let the cold air in thru there! Looks like a neat enough job all the same

Do you have a pic of the underside and where the air feed is?

Hole in the box will mean its not fully enclosed and could raise legality issues and what happens when it rains/the car gets washed

i have a genuine eIII bonnet

i dunno bout all you other guys, but whenever i wash my car, no water gets under the hood - i think the design of the undertrays around the air filter vent and the two middle bonnet vents prevent water getting in.

they work in my case anyway

im guessing that fibreglass bonnets just have mesh on it

No intake box is fully enclosed... otherwise how's it getting air. I can't see any reason it wouldn't be legal.

I have a un-enclosed pod filter that's attached to the car using brackets. No problem when checked by RTA.

It will be moved to the front bar on the drivers side 'opening' boxed off underneith. RTA said that this was fine also.

From the different forums i've read in NSW at least a pod needs to be enclosed i.e. not visible. I think in W.A. it just needs to be secured in some sort.

But what im trying to get at is for such a little gain realistically is it worth getting defected or spending 500+ bux on an aftermarket box. Just my opinion.

thats because your from canberra,
victoria and nsw are different.
and the box will only cost you around 50 bucks materials + some labour. nice diy job ;)

I was agreeing with box idea ;) while suggesting that an opening in the box (or non-enclosed pod) will still be legal in some states.

The lancers have a hole underneith or around the factory airbox don't they? Would make sense to box off a pod/panal filter in the factory location and feed cold air from the bumper through said hole. Holes in the top to allow for the bonnet vent if your keen.

Dragging up an old thread here I know, but Liberoz- did you relocate your fuse box??

I recently bought a pod filter but the adapter is wayy too long and it fouls on the fuse box. Was thinking about relocating it, if its possible.....
