G'day guys

Just a quick question .. Will a proton gti gearbox (4g93) fit right into a cc gsr also 4g93 ?

One more thing .. My 1st gear keeps popping out if gear .. Anyone have a clue of what it is ?

Gti is only fwd.
It needs different flywheet (gti) maybe starter plate as well.
Also gti gearbox mounts. And its weaker than the gsr box.

If you were on the farm and its all you had then you could do it. But just fix your gsr gearbox

I have the 1993 gsr so it needs quit a bit to make it work ..

And would you guys know a solution to the next question ? My first gear keeps popping out of gear

If you have a gsr then u cant use a gti box. Just repair the gsr box

If it pops out of 1st gear, id be lookin at the shifter bushes and cables first. If thats not the problem then ill be lookin at getting the gearbox checked

Evooox is the box guru.
My guess is sloppy bearing syndrome.
How many kms are on it?
Maybe also detent ball worn or loose, selector cable not selecting properly. Bent selector forks. And im sure there is a internal part that can wear causing this issue (maybe worn sliders)
Any other symptoms?

when the first gear popped out is 90% the intermediate shaft have to much shaftplay, bearing inspection and resetting the preloads will fix that problem

My old gearbox used to in the RVR. However, i noticed that if it was put in gear while rolling forward then clutch popped out before it come to a stop, it would never pop out when I did that, regardless of how much load I pit first gear under.... Weird.

In more detail wen I place it into 1st it stops half way and when I release the clutch as push the stick forward it goes into place more ..

But even though if it's in fully it sometimes just come out with a bang ..

If that made sense

Mine stops half way in first too. And it doesnt clutch drag or any other gear. Its not always and a bit worse wen cold. I just let the clutch out slightly to move the gearbox internals slightly and it goes in nice as pie.
But it never pops out of gear.
I suspect the first synchroes are a bit worn and I read something about jacks aligning the synchro teeth to the sliders or something technical.

Popping out is different. Maybe the detent ball

Even a worn shift fork or shift rail is going to give you similar symptoms of only half shifting into gear. Chances are the problem is actually synchro, hub and slider, keys and springs related on the 1st/2nd gearset assembly on the intermediate shaft. Theres no miracle cure other than opening the gearbox up and inspecting it unfortunately.
