Hi guys

Question for evo 1-3 owners or even for those who have 2L conversion with a GSR or EVO ecu .

Can you let me know which fans come on in the following scenarios:

Air con on: is it just the a/c fan running the whole time & the thermo fan just cuts in and out as normal when the car heats up?

Or do both fans permanently both run?

When the car heats up i.e. in traffic scenarios: Do both fans run at the same time and then switch off when they're not needed? or just the thermo fan cuts in and out and the A/c one remains off...?

I know what you's think should and shouldn't come on in each scenario, but if its not too much trouble, can you's just double check on your own cars for me

Thanks heaps.

in my car, not a evo, but the circuit shouldnt be much different.

A/C on, ac fan on continuously, engine fan when engine is hot/needed.

A/C off, just the engine fan when hot/needed.

i actually did a simple wire mod to make both fans come on under all situations.

can you tell me the wire mod you done to make both fans always come on in those circumstances (in depth if possible) because mine is doing this at present and i dont want it like that

was it something to do with the relays?

yea, i just put a jumper wire in between the high current outputs of both relays.

so when one relay is active, its high current output is also supplying the other relays high current output.

its real simple, one short wire about 5cm, just make sure its quite heavy duty, probably atleast 20amp rating.

essentially, this means one relay drives two fans, i have slim line fans and i am not sure if they draw less current that stock fans, i have never blown any fuses or melted wires etc.

you shouldnt put the jumper on the relay triggers because you can get 12v running back into the ecu.

the most elegant solution i can think of is putting a 1N4004 diode on each relays trigger to prevent feed back to the ecu then jumper the relays triggers. this will keep the current spread across each relay as they are stock.

im not home at the moment, but will grab a pic when i am.

hope that makes sense, there is a bit of information about it on vfaq.com, under electrical, fan mod i think.

cool thanks mate.

please put a picture up of what your relay set up looks like

and if anyone else who has a stock set up, can you take a picture of your relays so i know how mine should be set up. Im assuming these relays are in front of the passenger side headlight?

i want mine not to run at the same time, but it seems to be set up in a way where they are both running.

this has been only after my motor conversion and i cbf taking it anywhere ;)

probably wont help much as my car is a bit different, but here they are.

lid on

lid off, you can see my red jumper wire.

Thanks to4garret I've been wanting a solution to get rid of the rear rad fan for turbo intake I think you've just solved my delema as Im not running any aircon ;) I should be able to use front aircon fan to do the job of the rear rad thermo fan and piss it off ;) cheers :D

no bridge wires are present in my setup

would have no idea why both fans come on every time the thermo comes on

its a lot of load
