Ok guys ive done heaps of searching and i cant seem to come up with anything so i was hoping someone could explain it to me.
Can anyone explain the "flat shift" feature on the sm4's?
the autronic site doesnt say much besides the fact that it has it. Doesnt really explain how it works or anything.
From my understanding there a few people on here running them so i was hoping i could get some insight on it.

thanks!

Jurrel

I haven't had it enabled on mine yet ....

I think basically what it does is allows you to change gears without taking your foot off the accelerator - the ECU detects when the clutch pedal is depressed and drops engine RPM accordingly. Don't quote me on that though

"flat shift" does sound like the term for shifting gears while flat on the accelerator..
or "flat throttle shifting," it's a feature on a haltech so it's mostlikely the same.

lmao yeh u can thank my parents for that one hahaha

thats right, the ecu allows you to hold the throttle wide open, keeping the air flow going and the turbo spooling, without banginig off the limiter..

What it actually does is allow the driver to shift gears without clutching and without taking the right foot off the gas.

It does this by using a switch (can be wired to the gear stick or pedal) and once activated, it will tell the ecu to retard ignition timing by xx degrees and for xx seconds (i think the default setting is 1 second but ideal setting is .3sec.....

It allows you to shift without clutching because by retarding ignition, it takes load off the gears and thats pretty much it!

Quickshifts, minimal clutch wear due to no release / engage during shifts and faster times!...

you would need a dog box to take full effect of that, a syncro box still takes a second or so for the syncros to match up.. it wont bang straight in.

it is meant to work on a standard box..
no dog box required.

i have seen some clips of it and it looks good..

who's got a car we can try it on????
*cough* gsrsol *cough*
