Question about TME's

Ok just doin a few searches atm looking at getting a 6.5 TME

and during my search i have noticed a couple of differences and would like some light shed on it.



1. Some Makkinens have the added reflector piece to the tail lights (same as an evo 5). Why do some have it and some dont? Also Ive also noticed some being all red and some having a white part up the top? Is one of them aftermarket???

i know this is a 6 but ive seen 6.5s have these ones aswell

and heres one with a fully red one (im thinking aftermarket addon???)

2. Found a couple that have foglights in the TME front bar which i found very odd??? Any reasons? Option perhaps? (and im not mistaking it for a 6 i know the differences)

Thanks guys I was going to put it in the proper evo 6 section but i thought it would shed more light here.


I just missed out on a black 6.5 makkinen in w.a that had a 2.2litre tomei derive motor and ecu im spewing... it was putting out 360hp on 1.3bar with standard turbo and had a lifetime warranty on the motor and ecu from tomei and came with its original stock motor aswell (came with more goodies than that just cbf'd naming it all as it makes me feel bad i missed out on it =(...)

it could be possible but i doubt it as all these cars are stock as a rock.

and ive seen them on a few others if it was just one then maybe but yeah.

and having the fogs on the frontbar? i never knew anyone made a bar like that.

those reflectors if i remember were called something like "monte carlo reflectors" .. some guys on evo oz were selling then a while ago..

apparently they were an option you could have on your car.. but don't quote me on that.. they look much better with them on aswell..

as for the front bar, maybe aftermarket? i'd prefer them with no foglights anyway!...

its not an aftermarket frontbar apparently...

if u look at it its just the TME front bar with fogs which is weird... yeah i like the rear reflectors so when i get a 6.5 it will have that on =)

They were all options depending on the year/colour/spec of the car.

Don't know about the reflectors but the bumper with fogs was an option on the later cars (ie 2001).

Mitsubishi always change stuff through a model life. Its just like some Evo 4' and 5's have amber corner lights (like an Evo 3), and some don't. And why do all red TME's have black door handles even on the GSR spec.

If you look into the build dates I reckon you'll find a pattern.

you could just get an Evo 5

i want a 5 its actually my favourite but i cant find one...

so have opted to go for the 6.5

im glad its all options so now i got choices on what to have.

dont know about the fog lights on the frontbar but definately gotta have the reflectors.

are there anything else mechanical or interior wise that were options?

im still not happy that i missed out on the 2.2litre tomei evo 6.5 =(

You missed out on that by a long shot that has been sold for a while... and for what it was it was sold at a good price.

The J-SPEC models dont all have the tail light extentions, and some have front fog lights(rare)

The A-SPEC models should all have them,no fog lights

a black E5 with JUN running gear would be nice
