Haha I am just full of questions lately!

Anyway I have a spare A-spec gearbox.. the car is getting dyno tuned FINALLY AFTER OVER 9000 YEARS and I'm a bit worried that the pre-facelift transfer may not last too long.

If I take the end of the box off and take a look inside, will it be immediately apparent to me if it's good or bad?

Or even better, is there some way I can test it without pulling it apart or installing it in the car ?

Cheers!

An A spec box won't fit on a pre-facelift transfer/ right angle drive - wrong spline count.
What is it you want to check, the transfer or the box?

Sorry, I should have given more detail. I know the box wont fit the transfer (need to get one), I want to check the box itself.

You will either have to put the box in the car, or strip the box down totally to check the synchros etc. No easy way to do it I'm afraid.

Bummer, well I guess all I can do is get a transfer case and if I pop the pre-facelift transfer I'll try my luck. Cheers though.

try draining the oil then running a magnet through that oil. look for metal. lots of gold may indicate worn synchros, and lots of silver worn teeth.

Good idea.. the oil may have already been drained however (for transport), if I just put oil in it and let it sit for a week then drain it, will that still pick little bits of stuff up?
