hi guys, so yesterday after i got off work, i was carpooling a buddy from work home. When i stopped to drop him off, he noticed the smell of coolant. So i pulled over and popped the hood, and noticed that the rad was pissing out coolant from the fan area. Apparently a bolt had fallen in the fan guard, and a bump had launched it up into to fan which in turn threw it at the rad..... 3 times. I tried to pinch off the holes, but it was too much. So i pulled the rad, and went off to get it fixed. Got it fixed.
So here's my questions;

1) How do you properly bleed the coolant system

2) WTF is the thinner radiator that is in front of the rad but behind the intercooler? i'm thinking it's the a/c ??

What I do to burp my system is as follows.
1. Put front of car up on car ramps
2. Remove radiator cap and run engine until it reaches operating temp.

Because the radiator top tank is now well and truly the highest point in the system when you thermostat opens the air will naturally make its way out of the filler neck.

The item in front of the radiator is your air-con condensor.

this is what i'd do

1. make sure the dial on your AC/heater is set to the red/heater part so that it opens it up. Note: This should also be done if your draining coolant.

2. take off the radiator cap (i do all this when the cars cold)

3. Start the motor and leave the car running. Wait until it reaches operating temperature so the thermostat opens.

4. After it has reached operating temperature you'll start seeing a few bubbles at a time starting to come up and pop. Youll see this with the cap off of course.
This is the air being bled out of the system

5. I like to wait until there are no bubbles left at all coming up (even if coolant is starting to overflow out).
Otherwise at least wait until there are stuff all bubbles left

6. Then put the cap on and ur done

i do the same as above also but i have a cut coke bottle that i put into the filler kneck to get even more height over the rest of the cooling system.

also a funnel with the right size spout works even better

thanks guys. how much does a new rad cost down there?

I just swapped out my stock rad for an aftermarket one. If you want stock, I can sell you mine for cheap + ship (I'm in seattle, wa) or you can go with an ebay aftermarket one which is what I picked up. A few fitment issues, but all in all it worked out.
