Hi guys,
I just got my car back from the mechanic, and he asked me why i decided to change my oil from valvoline XLD to castrol magnetic. I remarked that Valvoline XLD is not a synthetic oil. He had been using valvoline in my car and his reason for using valvoline was because it was better suited to older cars, hence the slightly thicker oil would be much better than the thinner oils as they are used for the newer cars.
I have to point out that i trust my mechanic, he is very good at his job, he did my rebuild and fixed up the 4g63 transplant which was botched up by a previous mechanic. If you look at my engine it's pristine and i've had no dramas with it.
He is also using valvoline in his starion(4g63) which he rebuilt 10 years ago and still tops up with the same oil.
I mentioned a few people here on this forum use castrol, and he said his always used valvoline and it has always worked for him which is why he has not changed. He then follows up saying, alot of the rally cars use the newer oils, but then again their engine's get rebuilt frequently.
Anyways i thought i'd share that with you guys as it was something very different to what i have read in the past from this and other forums. Sorry about the long post.
I highly recommend my mechanic if anyone is interested in getting there engine checked out pm me, his located in springvale.
cheers,
Ritch
