Ok
Engine is about to be rebuilt by the same guy that did Jon and Barrys rebuild

i know nothing about this stuff, so what should i need to know?

he's built about 4 motors for me.. all still going very strong!
mine was the first ever 4G63 he rebuilt.. and i think to this date he has done about 7 now?.. so he does know his stuff... just listen to him and take his advice!

he will also be building my GSR motor that will hopefully run low 12s.

ive got 4 stock pistons if u wanna just keep it the stock route.

forged id go JE/ARIAS/WISECO

Jon
if im opening it up, i might as well go the whole way
but not too far

just forged pistons
cometic h/g
arp studs
hks cams
h/d valve springs

the usual stuff pretty much...

Hey Tharaka I'm in the same boat,

I'm getting a whole bunch of stuff done at creatd motorsports. I heard they knew their **** but were pretty expensive, They ended up being smack bang in middle (price wise) of all the shops I called up. Anyway since the whole head is going to be reco'd and alot more is coming out I might as well get them to chuck in some forged pistons and rods.

I was thinking something like http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4g63...tegoryZ33623QQihZ020QQitemZ300044306739QQrdZ1

Wiseco/Eagle

go the wiseco's / eagle route

cheap and will do the job!

i believe rob barac used this combo when he was running his 10's!

not sure about now..

good to hear ur getting it done properley!

also your being smart about it also,
not overkilling it like me....

eagles will set u back the same amount to get your stockies shot peened and new arp rod bolts.. so go the eagles

pistons, might as well spend a bit more,

bearings, polish your crank journals, performance valve springs (from performancevalvesprings in qld i think) cheap but good,

cams, u can get cheap crow cams with hks specs.. i believe it was 600ish a pair..

cometic is good, go the hp version (lower comp)

arp is also good, headstuds will do, u could do main studs but u dont have to..

if u want to torque plate hone the thing (ask clause about it) i have one, spent 500-600 bux on it, used it once... u can use it for a small fee =) ill look after ya..

u gonna port anything? thats where the power is mate... ask him about porting also

Hey Tharaka,

If you want anything from FFWDconnection let me know, I've got an order placed, just waiting for a few parts to come in. You can get crower valve springs with TI retainers for about $340 Australian which isn't to bad.

Let me know

Sam

I bought Wiseco/Eagle for my engine. The Wiseco's are simply awesome! Amazing build quality. And they come coated out of the box! I think it cost me $1400 landed but that was because I got slugged with taxes. We have since rectified that problem. If your interested in where I got them from let me know

Should I really get the forged rods?
i thought vr4 rods were good enough?

also, barry/jon: do i get some sort of warranty with clause?

You probably "don't" but if your going to the trouble to rebuild and do up your engine, it's piece of mind at what these days is a pretty low cost (eagles)

i know what you mean

im only after around 200awkw
but my car will be driven daily, so i need a reliable 200, not on the brink of blowing up again

will all this **** be necessary?

dan, how is the dsm link?
im planning on getting one, i just need to find out if it's compatible with the jap ecus

Well to be honest I think that standard rods would be fine for your application. Heck even mated to EVO 3 pistons would be a reliable combination.

The DSMLink is a fantastic little "ECU"! I just used it now because my knock guage (aka standard boost guage) was going nuts. Pulled out 4 degrees of timing and logged it and its down to 2-3 counts of knock. However, I think taking that timing out up top is robbing it of power as you can feel it sturggling and peak power is maxing at 181hp at around 5.2k. But I'm not a tuner - so I'll get it tuned soon...

That was a bit of a mini-rant  Yes the DSMLink is good. LOL. Either email DSMLink direct about the JDM ECU or ask Jesse (RevolutionMotorsport) from Galantvr4.org. He does a good price on the ecu and is extremely helpful. I'd say though that if it's chippable and logable then your set. If not, grab BrisVR4's Aus spec ECU
