4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

if u only want 200kw's
keep the stockers..
and for the pistons, get some wiseco's and thats it!

you could possibly use some newer evo pistons also...
if its cheaper, it might be an option

as for warranty, yes he covers u
if its his error he will rectify it..

Use some stock evo pistons and factory rods.. 200kw is easily and reliabily achievable on the combination.

I made a consistent 220+kw on stock evo rods and evo pistons.. so its achieveable and reliable! This motor was also built by clouse.

If your interested i have a set of Evo 3 pistons which are in good condition.. and reusable.. the rings for these pistons are $300 from mitsubishi..

I got a similiar rebuild to what you want and it cost me around $1500, i supplied pistons/rods/rings/afew other gaskets and balance shaft eliminator kit.

In regards to warranty, if it is his fault he will work it out with you but being a high performance motor there isnt really much of a warranty in regards to turning the boost up.

will the stock evo pistons increase my compression?

and will i need things liek the arp head studs for it?

i still want to get the 264 cams for some meaty midrange

If you are dead-set for reliability then DEFINITELY use ARP rod bolts, mains and headstuds. You can retain the stock VR4 crank and rods no worries so you just need to check them for wear before re-using them. Get a set of forged pistons, a new water pump, new timing belt kit, Cometic/metal headgasket, new rings and bearings. Because you want to upgrade the cams later get the head checked for straightness and pressure tested, big 3G lifters, and I would recommend h/duty valve springs as well although its not essential if you're gonna stick with the 264's lift. Even though 200awkw is easily achievable with the stock engine with bolt-ons, reliability is only as good as the weakest link in the chain. Dont skimp in an engine build or you will find the extra power will soon kill something you didnt replace and it'll be off the road again and cost you more $$ in the long run. Do it right and spend a little more now and you'll get your reliability with the added benefit of extra hp potential

Jon haven't all your engines blown? Were they all built buy this guy?

All my engines?

1 out of 6 engines blew that was my fault.. due to lack of oil..
Clouse didnt build that motor.. i cant remember who did...

The evo i sold is still buzzing around on the same motor that clouse built.. but he doesnt really look after it too well and gives it too much of a hard time so im waiting to hear about it blowing up soon.

LOL

that wouldnt at all have anything to do with how you drove it now would it?

does anyone know if you can use E6 pistons?

how i drove it or how i serviced it once a week when i was drag racing it? FYI he left the oil cap half opened and went out a night of racing.. then he rang me up and told me it has lost oil all over the rocker cover.. from that my presumption is he has no idea and its only a matter of time til something happens.. he really should look after it abit more.

also 2 weeks to selling it made 224.6kw.. would an unhealthy motor make that much power? i think not...

and yes e6 pistons would work but that would be just an ass away round.. they also have high comp.. if u wanna run big boost use the standard vr4 7.8:1 compression piston otherwise you will using the 8.5:1 comp evo pistons.

cometic head gasket
hks 264 cams (or similar grind)
Forged rods - eagle?
Pistons to suit - wiseco

i guess thats it
what am i missing?

water pump
t/belt kit (with the tensioner)
various other gaskets
my water pump is only 6 months old
do i need to replace it?

timing belt will be gates, probably not a good idea to reuse my existing one

all the other gaskets and things, the engine builder will get

i would change the tensioner and the bearings in the pulleys, just my opinion, but you don't want a tensioner bearing to let go 3 months after a rebuild trust me.
